I put my car in garage to get my front wheel bearing changed didnt no which side tho it was hard to tell but he took them both off an found out it was offside, he changed the bearing an now the rumblin sound has gone but now my car is making a strange knockin sound nothin in particular seems to set it off jus seems to randomly knock its deffo one of the front wheels any1 got any idea what this cud be an what i could do without taking it back to garage????
Could be a front wishbone, either side, or anti roll bar bush knackered.
You can have visual inspection of these, but to really check you will need to take a metal bar to them and see if there is any movement in them.
If you want to bring it to me, I will have a check, and if it's something garage has left loose, i will give you photographic evidence to take to garage.
Have a look underneath and see if you can see anything obvious that is loose.
Also check wheel nuts are tight.
Il go out when rain calms down a bit it never did knock until i had the bearin changed it took em 2 days to replace considerin i took the new bearin in with car they said they had to send the bearin off for some reason which i dont understand, i checked wheelnuts yday wen i first heard the sound thanks for gettin back to me.
Its a Y reg toyota celica incase u know of anything that goes wrong with these cars
When your driving it, can you feel the knocking coming through the floor.
Well i drove it back to eastham from wallasey yday wen i got it back an i didnt hear a thing on the motorway but did driving round wallasey, it does sound like it comes thru the floor im convinced i can hear it both sides, the noise sounds like wen ya ball joint goes an u go round corners an it knocks except the noise is not a constant knock its jus a random knock here or there seems to be wen i pull out from a junction or wen i go over bumps or potholes if that helps.
Defo sounds like a wish bone, or anti roll bar bushes gone.
If it is either of them, buy the part yourself and fit it, why pay garage prices, they are very easy to fit.
Im goin out now jus to check nothin is loose, il let u no and thanks again for ur help.
Am not 100% certain, but I think these cars have drop links, like the focus. If it does have a pull on them see if they are loose or worn ball joint on them.
Iv jus had a look at both sides dont get me wrong am no mechanic like but wer the cv joint is, a bit further along going in towards the engine is tha wer the bearin sits if so den thats the only thing with a wobble left side slightly wobblier than right side everythin seems pretty sturdy, does any of tha make sense?
The bearing is in the wheel hub, you would not be able to see it.
