Would like to know which busybody decided on the foot high speed ramps in the motorcycle lane at the toll booths, fekkin joke if you hit them at speed. Being the same colour as the roadway you do not see them until your practically on top of them! mad

Hello.

I don't see many motorcyclists lying in the road around there so I guess most must see them... wink

I only tend to go over them with the left side of my car as I'm avoiding the toll grin

Start reversing over them Alex as you'll have uneven springs after a while! crazy

Maybe if you went a little bit more careful, you might have time to think of us lesser mortals who have to pay the toll.

Do you think that might draw attention to myself? A handbrake turn followed by really slowly reversing over the hump, then a J-turn?

I can only try I guess. What's the worst that can happen?

withthat

I reckon by 2020 it's going to cost £20 to go to work and back.

(See the pattern... by 2030, it'll be £30)

It's hardly the bikers' fault they don't have to pay. You could always get one too if you don't want to pay wink

'a little bit more careful' is an understatement!

I saw two mates go through there together this evening. Fcukers should pay 75p each!

Alex, you are so right.
Posted By: parkgater Re: Kingsway Tunnel - 10th Oct 2011 6:45pm
maybe one of your high up friends could sort it all out.

I use Birkenhead tunnel only a little hump there :-))

Very strange - they only took away the old ones in September.
They are probably illegal, too. One misshap and it will cost them more in compensation and legislation than they are worth.
Last time I looked at the regs on speedbumps, one place that you could NOT put them was within so many metres of of a low hight object of less than so many metres (can't remember without looking it up).
I think the idea was to prevent high loads getting stuck under a bridge etc. that they should have been able to clear normally.
OK, it won't happen to a bike, but high and wide loads do go through the end booth lanes.
Watch this space - or lack of it...

The old ones were fine, very similar to the type used at the Queensway toll now. My issue is the severity of the thing itself, if someone is unused to the area and isn't aware of them they could be caught out...

For the moaners who complain about bikers not paying tolls, you try and stop, taking off your gloves, digging around in small zip pockets for change and then putting your gloves back on before moving off, there would be bikes backed right through to Liverpool!!!

It's more about practicalities than anything else.

For the person who started this thread, it just so happens that you should approach at the speed it recommends on the sign, and if you do that, then there's no problem. For people not used to the area, then i would certainly recommend getting in touch with the tunnels and mentioning as a biker, the humps are not visible enough, then they might paint them bright or put up a sign warning of the height, might only take an email but for the time it's taken to comment in here, you might actually get them to make a change.

I emailed about a problem with a road by ours once, and it was sorted!! Has to be worth a try. Good luck.

I do approach at the right speed and have followed your suggestion and emailed the Tunnels people see if anything comes of it smile

That gap for bikes is easily big enough to get a Corsa full of chavs through as I noticed one day at the booth. The guy in the booth could not have been any less interested when I pointed out what had just happened right under his nose. I wonder how long I could get away with it for.

You're looking at almost £500 A DAY

EVERY DAY

FOR SIX MONTHS

And people wonder why the tolls go up and the debt isn't paid off yet...

I gave them a £10 note the other week and the buggers gave me a load of fake £1 coins. So i sat there untill someone came out to see me, holding up the traffic, they soon came, and replaced fake coins with real ones.

This topic started regarding the speed humps at Kingsway.
I thought they might be illegal. The regs are in "The Highways (Road Hump) Regulations".
Specifically about not putting humps under overhead structures it's rule 4 Para 6 which reads -

6) No road hump shall be constructed or maintained in a highway:(a)on a railway level crossing or within 20 metres of any rail forming part of the railway track at any such crossing;(b)within 2 metres of any rail providing support and guidance for vehicles carried on flanged wheels and running in a carriageway of that highway otherwise than at a railway level crossing;(c)under or within 25 metres of any part of a structure over a carriageway of that highway any part of which is 6.5 metres or less above the surface of the carriageway; or,(d)above or within 25 metres of any part of a bridge over which a carriageway of that highway passes or any part of a tunnel, culvert or other similar structure which crosses beneath a carriageway of that highway.
Drive carefully and the cameras should show that you were not at fault, but the hump is to blame.

Well, they painted them so you can see them but they're still fekkin violent on the suspension!
Posted By: Catsick Re: Kingsway Tunnel - 24th Oct 2011 1:09pm
Or am I the only one who thinks they're too severe in their size/build and should shuttup?!

In contact with the Tunnels and being told it's ongoing development and the bumps adhere to regulations...
