Hi All,

I'm looking for an Audi A6, must be a diesel and automatic. budget of about £7,000. Reckon I should be able to get a 2007 for that sort of price.

Anyone interested or can provide any info. Good choice or not!?

It'll be comfortable and refined but I've never found any Audi much of a drivers car.

I doubt £7k will get you a 2007 either.

I'd say avoid the 1.9 diesel as it's a slug. 2.0 seemed to improve things and the 3.0 TDI quattro would be my choice but again I don't think £7k will get you into one of them.

£7k may see you in a high mileage 2006 if you look around.

But having said that these types of cars are going to be high mileage in general I imagine.

I know I'm predictable but there's a reason BMW's always come out on top, they are better cars and my £7k would be on a 320/330d and I've not looked but slightly older 520/530d may be around that price point too.

Passat or Superb no good?

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your comments- your input is much appreciated.

I have a BMW 325 at the moment and fancied a change / something slightly bigger to get the kids in. Audi seemed to be comparable and (slightly) cheaper, and I thought that a high mileage model may fit the bill. Thought their engines were good for 200k miles before they give up the ghost.

I have also been keeping my eyes open for a 5 series diesel, but they always seem dearer. Guess that's because they keep coming out top in all of the surveys.

There's a 2007 A6 with 126,000 miles over in Lpool for £6800, but when I went to see it, it had no drivers door lock (everything else perfect). They said they were getting a replacement from Audi, but it had to come from Germany. Four weeks later they still haven't got it. Fishy?? What do you think?

Hi Rhoobarb,

Wife has a Passat at the moment and just can't fall for it. Don't know why. What's the Superb like?

Is it the newer style passat?

Looks wise the superb is more or less the same as the older Passat just with a different rear light cluster so you prob wont be grabbed.

The newer style one which looks nice in estate look to be holding values around £20k.

Have you considered maybe a VW Phaeton, they were a fortune new, but due to bad resale prices you can pickup a 3.0TDI auto fairly cheap.

Wife has 2006 Passat Estate & currently has intermittent starting problem (which I understand from researching the internet, is v common in this year & model)

I like the Phaeton - in fact, nearly bought one about two years ago - but think they'll be too thirsty. About 21mpg around town, whereas the A6 is about 32mpg & better on a run.

Also this Phaeton's probably a little more than I wanted to spend.

Thanks for your thoughts tho!

How about a Saab 9-3?

Volvo XC90
Volvo V70
Skoda Octavia 2 VRS
Ford Mondeo ST
Jaguar X-Type
Mazda 6 TS2/Sport
Mercedes C200
Audi A4 S Line

Some of the cars I would consider with your criteria, mainly aged between 05 and 08. Obviously you can get an A6 2.0 diesel, but it will at best be an 05/55 model with fairly high mileage.

Hope thats some to consider.
