Hi everyone, first post here and hope to get a little advice.

Guy who used to look after my car sadly can't anymore so hope to find a new place to take it to.

I have a 1999 V Reg BMW 318i which is suffering from the following -

A knocking noise when going over a bumpy road (friend who also has a similar car says this is a bush as he has had the same on his)

An intermittant vibration you can feel when turning left, sometimes it is noticeable, sometimes not which is a bit odd. Either way, suspect it is all related.

Open to any advice and any recommendations for a good honest place to take it which hopefully does not charge the Earth.

Thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations and thanks for reading this far smile
Be aware of people on the site who claim they are mechanics, check my members modified car topic for an example.
sounds like an ARB linkage smile

Hi Chris, thanks for the reply, not heard of an ARB linkage before, what is that if you don't mind elaborating a bit? Thanks!

Yep, there's some dodgy people around nowadays, some will try and con you, then leave your car with more problems than you started with, and even when you try and reach an amicable resolution with them, they still let you down and hide away.

Hope ye get it sorted mate!

Thanks Matt, hope so too, it's one of those things with cars, if you find someone reputable you're happy to stick with them long term, hopefully all works out.

The one place I would recommend for a quote, is Wirral Motor Services, based on the Tarran Trading Estate in Moreton, oppostie Cadburys, behind the Texaco.

Ive used the personally for many years (since I had my second Clio iirc, so about 5 years), and recommended loads of people to them, they have never yet let me down, and they are very competitive for most jobs.

The guys are all over 40, and friendly, they only have one apprentice at a time, and have always done a cracking job for me; they also seem more than happy to give you advice for free and even check over ya car when you think you have a problem to give you a quote (I know some places will try and sting you for even the slightest labour). They are also very honest, and I have had this proven to me on at least one occasion.

Might be a bit out of the way for you though, but its right down the road from the train station if you can't get a lift etc..

Telephone number is (or was as I have not used them since I got my 75, been going the local MGRover specialist, fortunately just for advice and a quote on a future job so far lol) 01516774410. Worth a quote and/or advice or an opinion.

Thanks Matt, worth keeping in mind and not so out of the way as i'm about a 10 min walk from Bidston train station so it's not bad at all for leaving it with them.

Good advice, thanks for that.

Hi Matt, I have got it booked in at the place you recommended for Monday. They seem very helpful and the guy immediately knew what I was on about and said it was a common thing he would be happy to check out.

Thanks for the recommendation, i'll let you know how it goes smile
