Correct, but where is it?

I havent been able to find it ... there is not a lot of room under the bonnet.

Im dont know the actual engine or box you are on about, but some autoboxes do not have a dipstick as such, and rely on other techniques to check the level.

I know my Clio auto had to be checked using a special computerised tool (Renault XR25 iirc) at a dealership/specialist, and that was a MkI, so it would not surprise me if this was the case with more modern boxes. Some boxes have to be checked in other ways that are not obvious or easy for the DIY mechanic like actually via the fluid plug etc, and its got to be spot on, you can't really run them low or high for any period of time without the box sustaining some sort of damage/excess wear - if you are unsure, take it to Lookers or Vauxcare Wirral, or Robbs Garage which is behind St Marys school opposite that church with the old tower, they are automatic gearbox specialists.

Just remembered the name of the church, its St Hilarys I think. In fact that might the name of the road even.

Also, look in the owners manual, if it does not state how to check it, its probably best to assume that its not a recommended DIY job. If you have a Haynes manual, that will give you a definitive answer.

Yes, thanks for that ... it isn't obvious so maybe they just want you to not check it as a DIY job, but take it in a have the expense.

Power steering is checked via the filler cap, it has a built in dipstick.

I just want to check it for peace of mind.

To check 'manually' (no pun intended), just remove the fill-hole bolt. Fill up with ATF until it spills out. wink
ATF stinks, don't get it on your clothes!
