I've compiled a list of fuel prices, and how they've risen in the nearly two decades:
I've compiled the price and VAT/Duty charged on the refinery price along the years. Retail usually adds 5p cost onto each litre. Dread to think what 2008 will look like. 1996 was less than half of what the price is today, 13 years later.

Year - Pump Price - VAT & Duty - PRE-TAX

1995 - 53.52 - 39.50 - 13.97
1996 - 56.52 - 42.90 - 13.56
1997 - 61.70 - 47.70 - 13.96
1998 - 65.03 - 52.90 - 12.14
1999 - 70.19 - 57.10 - 13.14
2000 - 80.20 - 60.40 - 15.10
2001 - 75.50 - 57.68 - 13.30
2002 - 73.20 - 56.70 - 12.31
2003 - 76.30 - 57.50 - 13.50
2004 - 80.90 - 59.20 - 16.30
2005 - 87.30 - 60.10 - 21.90
2006 - 92.11 - 60.90 - 24.60
2007 - 95.00 - 63.00 - 26.20

I thought it was for every £20,£5 was actually the price of petrol, some people are suggesting that retailers show the tax and the vat and the vat on the tax on recipts, but the goverment won't let them,I wonder why, also remeber oil at the wellhead is taxed before it comes ashore.
