Well the Neon has given up the ghost so time to get the Fiesta back out.. I need to put it through an MOT buut.. the speedo isnt working, will it be an automatic fail? I am gunna get it fixed, but so far i've found one place that will fix it and they cant get the cable till next week - so do MOT places check it? I'm taking it to Walsh's if that makes any diff confused

I doubt they'd pick up on it! They don't roadtest it so can't see any problem there in fact it's not part of MOT. However, the Law does state the speedo should work.

Oh thats ok then, like i said i am gunna get it fixed but the MOT is monday and M53 Ford wont have the cable till Tuesday or Wednesday - i couldnt drive around without it, i'm a danger as it is lol

By any chance, does anyone know if a gear box from a 51 plate Neon will fit mine, i've got the 52 plate smile

2k Chrysler want for a new gear box, plus £85 an hour for fitting it! almost died when he told me so i'm buying a second hand Neon and ripping the engine out laugh

why are you getting ford to do the cable? plenty of places will be cheaper than them.

Depends on engine size in your Neon, can't see them changing it tho.

That's mad! £85 ph sounds good to me, we charge £140 + vat! Don't know what a Ford dealer would charge down here as I do my own work, probably a lot more!

Anyway, in the current climate you'll be able to shop about and I bet that price will be beaten. ;-)

Good luck mate.

It works out about the same price for the cable to be fitted in the Ford, i was gunna do it myself but JVW only hav cables for 1991 model, so i'm being lazy and getting Ford to fit it lol

I've noticed that too Vini, there are alot of Chryslers on Ebay going for next to nothing and most of them are saying "down sizing to a smaller car due to costs" i'm going to check one out next week in Manchester, it's got body damage but the engine is fine (apparently) so me and my greese monkey friends are going to check it out, he wants £500 for it, i think it's a bargin *IF* the engine is as good as he says lol smile

Speedo operation isn't part of the MOT test!

He'd have to take it round the block to see if it works (especially as some start at 10mph).

Bit off topic but i think it SHOULD be a part of the mot test (for those who cannot judge their speed) but it never will be a part of the mot test due to the government making to much cash from speeding motorists.
I don`t think `my speedo is broken` would hold up in court & thats why theres a HIDDEN law (well they dont make it heard do they?? ) stating it must work (probably in the smallest letters ever) wink

use and construction offences....simply put if it is fitted to the vehcile is MUST work.
the MOT is a poor test and has a bdegree of subjectiveness about it.
If the car is roadworthy THAT day... it passes even if bits are about to drop off. (that is why you have advisory notices along with the MOT)
The fact the speedo doesnt work would be picked up by any competent MOT tester..but like i said it has a degree of subjectivensess to it.
For example you can test the handbrake mechanism but puttin it on the rollers...except take a 4 wheel drive (like my old quattro) had to be done by road test....or if the garage doesnt have rollers...the MOT tester therefore has to drive the car...and would see the speedo isnt working.

Speedo dial isn't part of the inspection at all. I would've thought it would be, which is strange.
I also found out if you have sideskirts, you can get away with completely rotted out sills. confused
