DVLA to raise fees from 1 May

3rd April 2007

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) confirmed on 30 March new vehicle registration and driving licence fees to be introduced on 1 May 2007. The fee for a first driving licence will be increased to £45 (from £38) and the fee for replacing a paper licence with a photocard will be cut to £10 (from £19). At the same time, the fee for first vehicle registration will increase to £50 (from £38). These changes follow three public consultations, which were concluded in November 2004, July 2006 and January 2007.

The fee changes are the first in three years and are being introduced to support the continuing modernisation of DVLA and its licensing systems, including the development and provision of new and improved services, such as Electronic Vehicle re-Licensing (EVL) and First Applications for Driving Licences on-line. The changes follow the abolition of the fee for the three-year renewal of licences for drivers over 70 and the fee for vocational drivers in 2004.

The full list of fee changes is:

- First Driving Licence fee increases from £38 to £45

- The fee for replacing a paper licence with a photocard reduces from £19 to £10

- The fees for offender re-registration (disqualifications and serious offenders) increases from £50 to £60 and £75 to £85 respectively

- The fee for removal of endorsements increases from £19 to £22

- The first vehicle registration fee increases from £38 to £50

- The fee for a replacement vehicle registration certificate increases from £19 to £25.

Yeah, gutted for anyone whos applying for a provisonal licence after the 1st of May.

As Matty said, at least they have reduced the replacement fee.

I wouldn't bother paying £22 fee to get endorsements removed though. Infact, I wouldn't even pay the £19! lol
