I've been slowly working on my boot install with some kind
advice from Aceritz and Dazza.

I've got as far as carpeting it and all in all is very
nearly complete. Pictures to be posted on my MMC soon.

The design of my boot install incorporated a panel which
2 6x9's and a Cruisewirral.com logo with a neon lighting
the lettering behind lifts up to display.

I decided upon using an linear actuator to do this.

For those of you who don't know what a linear actuator
is, it is similar to a gas strut as used on many car boots
to hold them up and some car bonnets. As you put a voltage accross it, it pushes out, and reversing the voltage pulls
it back in.

Most 12v linear actuators can push/pull a maximum load of
400N (approx 40kg) which is easily enough to lift 2 6x9's
and a small sheet of carpeted 5mm MDF.

The only problem is, linear actuators are either hard to
come by or expensive. One went on ebay for £40 not so long
ago, but I didn't have the cash. There are buy now ones for
£70 from America, but I dont fancy paying that sort of price.

Does anyone know anything about actuators? Is there a way I
could make my own, say, out of an electric window motor or
other method? Or a place where I can get cheaper ones (I've
tried a few industrial electromechanical companies such as
R.S., C.P.C., Farnell e.t.c) but none of them do 12v ones frown
