I think it was a last minute thing but I saw an event for celebrating Christmas with fireworks, Santa, Ice Queen in Liscard tonight - does anyone know when the event ends? It says starts at 6, fireworks at 7.

The most ridiculous thing I've heard all year, liscards long gone, like a rover 75 with a head gasket problem, there's no saving it now so scrap it and start again.

Suppose Christmas in April is 'big news'.

I hear they have already set off the fireworks- NOW THAT is ridiculous!!! Other than that, why diss it??

why diss it? because it's a complete joke!!

Well...I disagree. tease No worries....

Have to agree , it is a joke and maybe they should have done it on the first of April. A complete waste of money that could have been better spent.

Pictures from the evening suggest it was a success?! It was a fundraiser/ profile- raiser- no harm done, surely??

I HATE CHRISTMAS AT CHRISTMAS TIME never mind April, but even so.....

Let's see what happens there at Christmas, I've not much faith in there being much.
There's nothing going for liscard anymore, the place is a complete joke, now that WH Smiths has gone that's it.

I agree with you there Ste, Liscard is dead as as a 'shopping centre'.Nothing there....It is grim.

It was not the councils money (WHERE THEY WASTE IN OTHER AREAS) but money from private investors who want Liscard to survive.

And just how will having a Christmas tree in April help Liscard survive ?

How do you tell a child there is only one real Christmas.
Why no presents and why there tree is not up at home.

It has to be a "Get people into Liscard" drive.
But once you drive them there, there is disappointment.
Just like other shopping area's. Land of the closed signs and shutters down.

Personally if the kids enjoy it great.
But the idea of Christmas in April on a professional level is hilarious.

No one wants to see a town centre die, and hats off to those investors prepared to try things but the council got it wrong, not the people.

Pictures from Facebook not me.

I agree. This Christmas stunt was silly but instead of slating Liscard why don't you go there and spend some money to help the local businesses. There is an excellent butchers and green grocers in the Cherry Tree, why don't you stop for breakfast or lunch in one of the cafes? Instead of using the key cut machine in Asda head down to the key cut shop and help them out. Liscard might be failing but it is partly down to us to keep the small shops open.

went through there on my way home from work, it's almost as if it never happened, no tree, no radio stations, nothing left!

the tree was borrowed from new brighton from what i heard!so at christmas we'll have the same old rubbish one!

Free parking for 3 or 4 hours might help the local economy in Liscard. Long enough to do a decent shop and coffee stop and short enough to deter commuter parking.

Yep, that's my night shot of the tree, thanks for nicking it Mark! :-)
