Well what can i say greatday even though my car never went which is a pitty cos it looked sweet.

[Linked Image]

After some mad frantic efforts to try and sort the car out for sat it just wasnt to be so i sold my entrance ticket to scooby and set off to my girlfriends mum and dads in a sulk on thursday night so i could be lazy and have a sleep in on sat as they live 30mins from the track.

Turned up at Elvington air field at about 10-30am after getting lost AGAIN to see scooby dazza webby and evo-ad were all ready there and unpacked ready for action.

There were plenty of nice cars there from a noble to a mini (which had a spell on 2 wheels).

Whatched scoobys 1st couple of outings and i must admit i was very suprised at how fast the car was it was holding off the noble at one point.

Then came Dazza's drive in the car mmmmmmmm sideways backwards and most otherways untill he got used to the power and the fact that it was his 1st proper go in a rwd car (didnt say till after).

Then scooby took me out in the car WOW what a rush. Done a couple of trackdays now but never in a car as well set up and as fast as the escort very fast and very sidewasy indeed cheers for that.

Then cos i am i cheeky git blagged a ride in a very green 4i so i could see what mine will be like and that was very quick only running 20bhp up on mine and on the same shocks and springs as mine too well quick till the breaks went alittle wayward smack somthing i should be looking out for then me thinks.

Not everthing went smoothly though seen a mini up on 2 wheels a 3 door cossy break the big end (must be a sierra 3 door thing) and a civic type R die after only a couple og goes. And poor eve-ad got a puncture and had to get home on a very dodgy looking wheel hope you got home ok mate.

All in all it was a top day lets hope nextime we can get more of us down there and on the track.

I AM GOING TO SET ANOTHER TRACKDAY UP IN FEB/MARCH SO IF YOU MISSED OUT ON THIS NOWS YOUR CHANCE TO SORT YOUR RIDE FOR THE NEXTONE.

More pics to follow.

Yeah it was a real shame about your car Tupac, I know you would have enjoyed it out there on the track but i'll deffo see you on there for the next one in Feb/March laugh

Scoobies escort was well mental, sideways at every opportunity and attracted plenty of attention on the track and also on the slalom course, which Scoobie then renamed himself to the 'drift course'...very appropiately I believe although I didn't get to enjoy this piece of sideways action frown

I took 2 cars, one being a R33 2.5 GTS-T Skyline and the other a Prelude 2.2i VTEC 4ws. I was slightly disappointed with the performance of my Skyline when I realised it was only running 5psi of boost. I had a bleed valve fitted the day before and just didn't have chance to set it up until actually on the track. Also after 2 laps I got really bad brake fade which caused it to spin a few times due to the standard discs & pads and could only manage 5 laps at the most at a time frown . To top it all off the manifold starting blowing badly and that was before luch time.

The Honda performed really well and easily managed to overtake a Porche Carerra, WRX, Elise and had a good go at the Noble but this was cut short when I had a blow out while exiting a bend. The 4ws kept the Honda's back end from going anywhere but there was massive understeer round every bend due to the standard suspension set up.

I managed to get 2 part worn tyres at the track for the return journey home, only £25 for the pair which was quite reasonable considering what they could have charged. Next time i'll make sure the Honda's got uprated suspension, the Skyline's got uprated pads and running a lot more boost.

FANTASTIC DAY!
Wow is all I could say, thanx to those that came and it was great to have a proper chat with you evoad a pity about the tyre but I guess in the back of your mind you know that kind of things could happen.

Was an early start but most good events are, had the luxery of watching a film on the way to get us in the mood. Once at Elvington the cars were piling in and was an interesting variety too, from caterhams to Pug405s, Mini's and Cossies - Definetly something for everyones tastes. Tupac had a great quote and that was 'Its nice to see some of these expensive cars being used properly for a change' and I totally agree!

After the everybody was settled as ready we went on three 'test laps' so everyone could learn the course, me and Scooby where at the back and while everyone else was taking it easy Scoobs getting the backend out!
Once the proper laps started it was an amazing experiance and I myself learnt sooo much, also going broadside at 70/80mph is great fun but scary when not expected tease

When I had my go I had no passenger, I was not worried just a bit edgy incase things go wrong plus the fact Iv never driven something thats way over 200bhp turbo and RWD and to add to the funfactor only weights 800kg! Well I had fun getting the backend out, sometimes spinning the car but its all about learning (span car 3 times tease ).
It was immense fun and you can certainly learn a hell of a lot about your car and your drivers skill, well worth it but it can be expense depending what you drive - The escort used 2mm of tread every time it went on the track so a set of tyres is needed, especially with the burnouts Scooby was doing tease

Cant wait for the pics to be put up and keep an eye out for the Chevette laugh

elvington was a fun day, insane tyre destroyer but you can't beat a proper trackday, anyone fancy oulton park, just down the road and a totally different experience, go on you know you want to.....
Posted By: spinking Re: Reivew : Elvington trackday 19th nov - 20th Nov 2005 11:04pm
I would try Oulton park but they are far more into doing it right THERE WAY if you spin its a black flag were sat if you span you span.

Will do it though if sombody got it up and running just wouldnt push hard because there are things to hit other than cones thats why i like airfields more fun less worry

GOOD IDEA THOUGH thumbsup

Where the hell do you start ?????

Early start, several hours preparing the night before (Getting the car trailered up n stuff) and then a 5:00am start setting off for 6:00am.

Driving in complete darkness with the car all iced up from the frosty night. Got there just after dawn to a very very brisk morning. Unloaded the car and signed on for the track managing to get Dazza a free second driver and Webby as a free passenger, sorted.

Safety briefing and then onto doing 3 laps behind the safety car at moderate speeds to learn the track, well that was the idea anyways but i had a different idea. This was a great oppertunity to practice drifting those corners.

Returned to the pits to get prepped for the real thing. Off we Go.... Wow, Wow, Wow accelerating down the first straight and the arse end stepping out left right and centre, coming into the first corner at approx 80mph and went for the brakes, O SHIT.... The brakes and tyres were cold and didnt work. Just managed to get around the first corner by going outside the cones slightly and then set about backing off a little and warming the tyres and brakes.

Once this was done it was down to business, This was so so so much fun you simply carnt put it into words, As Dazza said, going around a long long sweeping 90 degree bend and the car stepping out at speeds of 80mph and boy o boy does your arse start twitching. Coming out of this bend you accellerate down the long back straight upto 120mph and you have 2 bends to handle whilst doing 120mph, its real difficult i tell you. Then onto a series of very tight chikanes, drifting this way, then drifting that way, and then drifting the other way and then flat out around a long right hander into another 2 90 degree bends past the pit lane.

Its an experiance i wont forget for a long time.

I am struggling to summarise the whole day as it was awesome. This is something you have got to experiance to appreciate.

The Escort done me proud apart from getting a Boost leak late in the day but it was almost time to wrap it up anyways. Need a full set of tyres and a slight dent to the door after side swiping a cone big time but hey, thats all part of the fun.....

Video footage coming soon with in-car Camera too

Golf poppin a wheel up well high. Incredible vids there. So the escort makes a great trackday toy then?

How much the day cost u inc. the price of new tyres that u need?
Posted By: Scooby Re: Reivew : Elvington trackday 19th nov - 21st Nov 2005 2:16pm
Cost approx £400 but most of that is the tyres.

Im running 215/50-13 vr hence the expence doh
Posted By: evo ad Re: Reivew : Elvington trackday 19th nov - 21st Nov 2005 2:22pm
Yeah you don't realise how much fun it is until you're actually out there on the track.

I'd deffo be up for Oulton Park next. I believe that the tracks got much better grip and it's possible to get 3-4 track days out of the tyres instead of just half a track day.

Can you put any vids up of my Skyline Jay?
Posted By: Scooby Re: Reivew : Elvington trackday 19th nov - 21st Nov 2005 2:27pm
I would do if Webby had of took any footage of it matey

I think there is a couple of the skyline,
i cant remember ?

But i did get your smoking brakes lol...

First track day ive been to and it was a cracking day.
The sun was shining and it wast that cold either.

I thought it was brillant, always something to catch your attention, cars spinning,
watching for black fags etc...

Bit strange to overtake on the left but it was great fun.

I jumped passenger with scooby,
OMG i thought i would crap it big time.
But it was great, i guess because there were
no lamp posts anywhere and lots of run off if need be.

The biggest suprise was how the track was eating tyres, first scooby's and then Evo Ads.
We his were chewed and spat out...

Fair doo's Evo Ad was having fun,
Enjoying it round and round he went.

Nice to meet your missus,
and Tupac and the Missus too.

Great facilility's,
Decent prices and good food.

I think the organisers of this event had it just right, not too busy and not too quiet.

Mysterious thing of the day?
Bloody flying spiders webs...

Event if your not behind the wheel,
its a great day for a spectator, and i'm sure
after watching the day you will want to
have a go too. smile

I wouldn't mind buying a Radical as a track car. Can't see anything keeping up with one of them round the track and can be had for around 10k tease
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Reivew : Elvington trackday 19th nov - 23rd Nov 2005 2:41pm
There is acutally less grip round Oulton Park as the track is smoother tarmac, and less abrasive, so the tyres do last longer smile

Only thing with Oulton is you cant be quite so "Gun Ho" round there, come a cropper on the airfield, and you just spin across the grass, the same at Oulton could see you in the armco frown

Im ment to be doing one there this weekend, but after watching the forecast.... no
Posted By: evo ad Re: Reivew : Elvington trackday 19th nov - 23rd Nov 2005 4:57pm
That's the only problem with Oulton Park the concrete blocks, trees and solid barriers etc. Be alright in the summer but not sure when it's wet.
