Calling all Wiki who are concerned about the future of Wirral. Because of a cut in funding by the Government, Wirral Council have to reduce spending by £100M over the next 3 years yes! £100m. In the 1st round 400 jobs will be lost and massive cuts to services will be made bearing in mind that there are 2 more rounds still to come.

If you feel strongly about this then join us on Monday December 17th at Wallasey Town Hall where we will present a petition to the full Council following the rally which starts at 5pm.

Bring banners, whistles but more importantly yourselves, family and friends.

See you there.

Bennie

If the useless buggers could get back the money they've wasted on Tranmere Rovers over the years I'll be delighted.

what makes you think its wasted do they not bring people to the prenton area spending money as well as advertising wirral nationwide
Posted By: Zubee Re: Rally against the cuts - 9th Dec 2012 5:51pm
Thanks for the heads up on this Bennie, I haven't seen it advertised anywhere else.

I hope there's a good turn out as these cuts will affect all of us.

goodluck for a big turnout on this Bennie, you do a lot of unsung work on these matters.

Unfair to say a new member has joined for one purpose, this is just discouraging and will make them think twice about what they can post. No new members equals no wiki Wirral.

That'a not really fair Bandy, it's a local issue being brought to our attention by a local Wiki member.

Au contraire - it's perfectly fair!
- Bandy quite clearly stated that it was his opinion. Nothing wrong with that, whether you agree with it or not!

it is unfair to accuse someone of joining for one reason !

Bandy did say it was his opnion so dont see an issue really. My opinion is that someone could be reading the forum for a while then decides to join as they feel they could contribute, or just feel comfortable after reading for a while.

It is nice to see people uniting and trying to do something, but going to the town hall is like preaching to the choir, this needs to be taken to the people who cut the councils budget (the tory government) not the council itself.

It's like complaining to a chef that his boss doesn't order enough food to cook....
Posted By: CVCVCV Re: Rally against the cuts - 10th Dec 2012 7:59pm
Anyone else out there old-fashioned enough to remember the saying "Cut your coat according to your cloth"?

Not enough cloth to go around any more... Wonder how that happened...

Someone lost the scissors!

I can see a strike looming, in the not too distant future. Think of the money the council will save in a day!!!

My job is one of the 400 to be lost. We have been told by Unison that a meeting is taking place at Wallasey town hall on Thursday 20TH December at 5.15pm!
Posted By: RUDEBOX Re: Rally against the cuts - 11th Dec 2012 7:17pm
Thats terrible, Donno. What a worrying time, for you.
Posted By: CVCVCV Re: Rally against the cuts - 12th Dec 2012 6:23pm
Can you say what job that is, Donno? (unless you're a councillor of course, in which case, LOL!!)
Posted By: Bennie Re: Rally against the cuts - 13th Dec 2012 6:43pm
As we live in one of the worlds richest countries there's more than enough cloth to go round, it just depends on how it's cut.

we don't to bypass our Councillors and M.P.s we want them on board, this isn't the end of the campaign, it isn't even the end of the beginning.

About 150 people protested outside a Wirral council meeting over plans to cut the budget by £39m next year.

Most were council employees who could face redundancy if the cuts go ahead.

This is a disgrace whats happening to people all over the country. Its about time this so called govt pulled there fingers out of there arses and collected the unpaid taxes from these major companies, the unpaid taxes alone would wipe out the countries deficit.
Same as always though take from the poor to feed the rich mad

Many people did attend, unfortunately the weather was a barrier to lots.

We were herded into an upstairs room and only 50 were allowed into the gallery. The lead petitioner made a brilliant speech and we're now discussing what to do next. There's another rally at the Town Hall on Thursday at 4.30pm.

Thanks for your interest and thanks to those who attended.

Hope to see you Thursday.

Posted By: RUDEBOX Re: Rally against the cuts - 18th Dec 2012 8:47pm
I attended Bennie, with a few others.

I wondered whether they herded us inside as we were getting attention from passer bys?

Ross was BRILLIANT!! thumbsup
Posted By: Bennie Re: Rally against the cuts - 18th Dec 2012 10:42pm
Yes Rudebox, they wanted us out of the way, the group of us were unable to support Ross in the way that we wanted so we'll have to be quicker next time, glad you could attend.

Bennie.

My group did manage to get into the Public Gallery. Rapturous Applause for Ross. 3 times upon recollection.

Could everbody hear proceedings in 'The Pen'?

It doesn't say much if a bit of bad weather is more important than cuts to jobs and services.

yes we could hear him but it wasn't the same as being in the gallery.I've got my whistle and trumpet for tomorrow.

We need a really good turnout this week. The people of the Wirral have to show the Councillors the strength of feeling against the cuts. They really will devastate our communities.
I believe there are at least two Councillors wavering on voting for the cuts. Even if we lose this vote, the fight against the cuts has only just begun!

hi Star.

Could you hear us lot outside the Chamber- chanting and whistling etc.

Somebody (from Union) suggested that 'if they won't come to us, we will go to them'.So, we did- peacefully, just made a lot of noise...
Blocked by security-obvs.

Hardly any audio atall, in the civic hall atall, peeps were most miffed.

Did see you outside but either you were in conversation or I was.Never mind x

Maybe, thats why the speakers in the civic room were on barely audible then? Twunts.

Good for you, saying ya piece.

Posted By: RUDEBOX Re: Rally against the cuts - 6th Mar 2013 1:30am
Any outcome? We tip-toed out of the civic hall (as every floorboard creaked so LOUD) against the backdrop of tinny noise from 1930s speakers-around 6.45-to the sounds of SHHHHUSSSHHHHH.

Felt like I was in WW2-200 peeps huddled around a wireless!

The other wink meeting went well.
Posted By: starakita Re: Rally against the cuts - 6th Mar 2013 7:53am
they've gone with the labour budget the day centers like the kennels have got 3 months, heard the noise from downstairs,it was noisy on & off in the gallery we got told to be quiet or we'd get thrown out,it was a bit much when this woman called my fella a coward when Jeff Green had a go at his speech,he replied back he doesn't want the cuts but one thing he aint is a coward so Im not going to be quiet while she's having a go.This budget has been thrashed out over a few Sunday mornings I went to pick him up from one & he said they were very intense so the budget has not been taken lightly.
