Hi All,
This year again sees predicted tides of over 10m on consectuative days in Feb and March. If the weather conditions are condusive the tide could flood the entire marsh!
The RSPB will be on hand to showcase the wildlife that is being pushed off the marsh as the water level rises. We expect the local and over-wintering birds of prey to make the most of the chaos, plucking smalll mammals and birds as they are exposed.
Staff and volunteers will be present with telescopes to give great views of the spectacle and identify any unusal wildlife.
Feel free to pop along anytime on Feb 19th, 20th or 21st - we will be at the Old Baths Car Park and possibly the Donkey Stand.
For details see
www.rspb.org.uk/parkgate or phone 0151 336 7681
I think the ducks will be fine but what about all the other animals? Where will they rest their beaks of a night?
People could help by removing any netting from their fish ponds and putting a few extra bird houses up over the period of high tides.
Thankyou very much
Not something i make a habit of watching, but i was working up there one year when the sea was flying over the top of the wall, I had trouble getting into the chippy, worth going to watch.
my aunty heather lives in neston, and in previous years she says the rats have come up of the marsh and run across the road, when the high tide comes

Quite a while ago I was in the Harp Inn at Little Neston. It sits right at the edge of the marsh. High water spring tide lapped over the track outside for about an hour.
You can imagine the absolute Hell of being marooned in a pub during opening hours ! What else to do ??? ha.ha.
wow I'd love to snap a few pics of this.
This may be a good time to see the Dee bore too!

Wow! I never knew the Dee had a bore!
Anyone see this, or got pics??
Went along today. It was dissapointing but blew the cobwebs away. The RSPB warden said that they will be high again in 4 weeks time. Will need a West wind blowing 40 mph+.
Didn't spot the traffic sign though Softy!
It was a fair way out Bezzy, we only spotted it with the bins at first.
Stu and I went. Great day for spotting twitchers! Couldn't believe the gear some of them turned up with. Thought some were taking themselves far too seriously - camo gear on a sea wall?
Bit disappointed the water didn't get higher - we were expecting it to be lapping up against the wall. I was also disappointed there was no plague of rats running away from the marsh.
It was bl**dy freezing so we left about 12.45.
Ahh right, that makes it even stranger as to how it got there.

Did you see the people with the punts?

Not sure, there was someone standing up in a boat?

Are well maybe we will see it in 4 weeks time.?? Thanks for the report and photos peeps...
Whenever there is a flood of any sort anywhere in the country why does there always have to be a smug git in a canoe paddling along in it.

Oh what a spoil sport!
Thanks for all the pictures people - glad to see some of you made it there and as one poster mentioned the tides are due in again on March 19th-21st .... fingers crossed for slightly better/more condusive weather conditions.
A few people managed to see a hare swimming whilst others saw a few harvest mice but not the big mammal exodus that we saw last year

Thanks SS,might see you there then.
I'll head down there, does this happen yearly?
This one is shown as a twenty year high or super moon,Usualy spring tides are an annual event.I think Mondays is highest 10.18m
Anybody else go? Unfortunately the water still didn't come up very high but still enjoyed the morning out. There were a couple of short eared owls which we saw quite a lot of and just as we were packing up, a hare ran across.
Was the place full of twitchers again?
I saw nothing, late arrival, going to try again tomorrow.

I don't think there were quite so many.
