I need an old metro (boxy one) for a 6R4 project im starting.
It must be the old type (up to G reg) pref with T&T.
I've got most of the parts for the conversion, body kit, engine, mid mountable gearbox ect...
But no car to put it in.
I'm desperate to start.
Wouldn't you like to see a car like this at one of the meets:

Would anyone be able to do me a photo chop of what it might look like, i've tryed that program and can't get the hang of it.
they look virtually the same, just with different from lights.

Do a light transplant to the older style lights and put a private plate on it? might make it look like the origional then rather than the newer rover shape one cool

these things just arn t right, would give my brown wings for one though
They used the engines from a -gulp- XJ220 (without forced induction).
I recon they should of used forced induction lol

I have seen these things race de-restricted R1 motorbikes and give them a run for their money. 0 - 60 times of less than 3 seconds is possible.

I was reading up on them once, and they were actually going to scrap plans for the metro 6r4 and build a maestro 6r4 as they were bigger and could handle the power better.

Fair play to you, if you build this you will, IMO, have the best modded car about.

confused

The XJ220 used a 3.5 V6, the early 6R4's used a 3.0 V6 developed from Austin Rover 3.5 V8 - minus a couple of cylinders and a bit of an overbore.

Later 6R4s used a 2.5 V6 as due to homologation restrictions the 3.0 engine was limited to how far you could modify it, where as the 2.5 was unrestricted and where actually quicker then the 3.0 cars. smile

The engine was from an american car company Buick. Rover bought the rights and started to produce the engine over here, it want in to everything including boats.
For the 6R4, they cut two cylinders off, made it quad cam (over head) and fitted it with throttle bodys.
After the 6R4 project, the new modified engine rights where sold to JAG, who put it in a few of their older race cars before a bit more development and it went into the XJ220.

They did make a austin mini based around the 6R4, it was called the 4R2 mini.
Don't know what the 4R2 stands for, if 6R4 is anything to go by it means: 4 cylinder, rear mounted, 2 wheel drive.
This project was scraped i think as i can't get much info on them.
I have started my own 4R2 project as well, but it has a rover V8 at the front, rear wheel drive.
It's gonna have to be called the 8FR (you heard it here first)
I have some pictures of the chassis and shell conversion
[Linked Image]
(yes the shell is standing on it's end)
[Linked Image]
(tho this is all that has been done so far as i have been gathering parts for my 6R4 project). And for all you tech heads, a sketch of how i designed the chassis.

So what do you think?
Worth doing?
Which engine are you going to use for the 6R4 replica?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Wanted : Metro. Desperatly. For a 6R4 rally project. - 8th Sep 2005 10:30am
3.5 rover V8, with 4X down draught webers, custom alloy inlet manifold, custom exhaust manifold, full ARP bolt set (internal), full stainless bolt set (external), fully balenced, extended water pump from hotrod for a double belt pully and custom made sump, (possible dry sump, if i can find some pumps and can be arsed making it) so that the engine can sit lower in the chassis.
