Hi guys, my manual Clio was involved in a crash the other day (woman never looked right coming out of a side road and hit the side of my car) and her insurance are going to pay me out as I think the cost to repair the car will outweigh its value.

So I am in need of a new car, and whilst I really want to get a Clio Baccara, its seriously hard to locate a 1.8 Baccara for sale anywhere within a 100 mile or so radius of Wirral, so I have decided that my second preference would be a 25 shape Rover 200.

The minimum I would want is a 214 Si (as it has a few none standard extra's) and would prefer it if it had a sunroof. A 216 is also an option, although obviously this will increase the insurance a bit more, so a 214 is preferential.

It deffo needs to be a 25 shape model, so pretty much anything after 1996 will do and needs to have a decent MOT with it.

So if anyone knows of a 25 Shape Rover 214 or 216 for sale anywhere etc please lemme know smile

PS. I am keeping my eye on AT and the Loot like, but they seems to sell too fast. Oh and a 220TDi is now out of the question, I have just had a quote on the insurance and its £200 more then a 216 even though its slower LOL!

Thanks peeps smile

Bit of a difference between a 1.8 Clio and a 1.4 rover

I know, but they were so expensive when they were first released (the Baccara's are like mini Mercedes Benzes with all leather interior - sheer luxury basically) that hardly any where sold. The 1.4 version was also a lot more common then the 1.8 version, which in turn is hard to get hold of itself lol.

And I can't get insured on a manual of that power.

I may just get another Clio RT in the end, as the isnurance is cheaper and I still love me Clio's, but atm I am really interested in a 214/216 as the insurance is not much more then my current Clio's, they are excellent priced nowadays (thanks to the 25 being launched and Rover going bust, their depreciation has been as fast as their 0-60 times lol), their performance is quite good (the 214 is 103bhp and the 216 is 109bhp) and their build quality is better then pretty much all Corsa's, Clio's etc of the same age and price range smile

If you do a see a 1.8 Baccara going locally though, lemme know. Otherwise I think its just something that I will have to keep in the pipeline and hope one pops up (ive been searching for the last 4 months though) laugh

I think dazzas point is

"if u can afford a quick as **** clio why are u willing to settle for a 1400 rover?"

Why not look harder for a clio,im sure theyre about,u may need to travel tho but dont let that put u off,or at least settle for a quick rover like a ZR 160

Its about getting insured on powerful cars like the ZR, plus the cost of the cars themselves.

I only wanna spend about £1500 max on another car (£2000 for a Baccara though). I would love to be willing to travel, but I am a bit skeptical of travelling 200+ miles to view a car that might be in bad condition running wise or have problems that I find that would force me to not buy the car.

If I could get insured on a ZR160, it would almost certainly be more than I am willing to pay (maximum of £1000 per year), I am only 19 with 1yr NCB, so insurance cost is still an issue.

A Rover 216 16v would also be fine insurance sie, it would have a bit more power then a 214 16v.

u think u cud get insures on a bacarra for under 1k a year?

According to a quote from Frizzell yes, although I think I would possibly pay extra anyway as its a car I "really" would love to own.

Although I would also love to own an MR2 or an Alfa159/Brera Spider or a Fezza Tezza but they are just not realistic possibilites anytime soon laugh
