I recently listed an item for sale on Ebay, it was listed pick up only as it was quite big.
The item sells and I noticed the buyers address was Middlesbrough. The buyer then contacts me and asks me if I will post the item to him and he will pay the cost so I agreed gave him a price and asked him to transfer the money to my paypal account.
He then gets back to me saying he doesn't want to use paypal and could I send him my bank details. Alarm bells now start ringing so I Look at the original paypal transaction and notice his details are registered in the Czech republic not Middlesbrough.Since I told him I would not give out my bank details he has vanished having paid £10 for an item. This is now in the hands of Ebay but my advice is do not deal with anyone out side of Ebay rules as it looks like this person was only after my bank details to empty my account. (wouldn't of got much lol).

If he didn't want to use paypal which he has already used once for the £10 payment he could have sorted a courier to collect on his behalf and at your convenience, And just because his details are registered in the Czech republic shouldn't really be a cause for alarm as Ebay is worldwide.
I always check a persons feedback so as to see what of seller / buyer the person is.

I Always and rather deal with people who have a paypal account.I Never go on people feedback because i know someone who sell stuff and buys it back under a diffrent account this bumps up his feedback and get any bad feed back down the feedback page.If someone sell a lot off stuff on ebay you could end up going throught loads of pages. Some people only check the first few page.

Excuse me for being thick, but how can he drain your bank account, with just your acct number and sort code? This is readily available to anyone you give a cheque to or when you use your debit card ? So what am I missing?

Hi Duxdeluxe,
I really don't know what this person was up to, all I know he was a new member who paid with paypal, but then wanted my bank details to pay the postage, when I insisted he paid through paypal he has not responded since.
Paypal is there for our protection so we don't have to give personal details.
And I don't know how your details are used as I am not a criminal.

ebay and paypal give the same advice you have (do not deal outside of ebay/paypal) but i use ebay a lot and have bought and sold to pretty much every continent. not had a single problem yet!

So what your all saying then I should have given them my details?.
Do you not think it a bit odd that he didn't want to use paypal when he had already used it to pay for the item, and then stop replying to emails.

PayPal is bullshit.

Pickup only son!

Here's the trick, if some bitch wants to pay via PayPal on a pickup only item let em.

What you do next is send them and empty package via rec delivery.

Package shall be tracked and signed for.

Enter details into your transaction on PayPal.

Ta darrrr, your covered. (in case he says item not received and tries to claim his dough back).

He can't get shit through your details.
