Neons have to be on a totally seperate switch, and it's illegal use them on the road, so I've heard.
Posted By: Ando Re: Neon Lights - 26th Apr 2004 8:39pm
Yeah they are illegal on the road. "Show use only".
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Neon Lights - 27th Apr 2004 10:26am
surely to many lights on a car will make it look like a christmas tree though.

undercar neons look good when fitted properly (ie. the neon bars not visible) a lot of people think they look pants because of people fitting them with the bars showing. i think that to many lights make a car look tacky but thats my personal opinion, although i like undercar neons but think they only look good when the bars arnt showing or when its on a car that suits them.

as far as i know the washer jets and number plate lights are illegal, and i've seen them on so many O.A.P's and people blatently not into modified cars having them on and police have not taken notice of them.

could it be that police are simply picking minor faults on people with modified cars?

just my thoughts anyway <img border="0" alt="[cwlater]" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions047.gif" />

Posted By: saz2004 Re: Neon Lights - 4th May 2004 6:57pm
yea ive heard they r illegal too! they do look smart as u said only if they r fitted properly!
Posted By: Scooby Re: Neon Lights - 4th May 2004 8:12pm
Correction, Neon Lights are not illegal.
It is illegal if you can see the "Coloured Light" or (Neon Tube) itself, It is not illegal to see the "Emmission" from the Neon tube.

There has not been a proven case in the U.K. for showing neons on a car.

I have tempted several officers to try the case in the court of law and they have not liked it at all......

Be warned if they dont or carnt do you for your neons they will possibly check your car for other defects to procecute you for....

Legal Issues

Legally, the whole issue of using neon in and on cars is covered in the UK by 1989 Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations. These date from a time before neon was in use, and the strictest answer is that until there's a court case there will be no definitive legal position. We want our customers to make informed choices, so we spent some time consulting with the Department of Transport. And what they said, which applies within the UK only, boils down to this:

* According to Regulation 11 of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations only red light may be shown from the rear of a vehicle. There are a very few exceptions to this, including amber from indicators.
* Red light must never be shown at the front of a vehicle
* Blue should be avoided, since it is strongly associated with emergency vehicles.
* The law covers lamps at the front and sides, and not light coming from the underside of vehicles. Neon systems aren't lamps, but they do create light that's easily seen. The wisest course is to abide by the colour regulations outlined: red at the rear, amber at the side, and white in front.
* Interior lighting is not generally subject to the same regulations, but the use of neon could alter that since it's clearly intended to be seen from outside the vehicle.

Neon is clearly intended to be seen outside the vehicle?

I have footwell neons, how the hell can I expect them to shine outside the vehicle? <img border="0" alt="[Roll around the floor laffin]" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions065.gif" />

I spoke to an officer a while ago and he told me himself, for it to be an offence, the neon TUBE should be visible.

If the neons are fited properly and you CANNOT see the lighting TUBE, then you're ok
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Neon Lights - 17th Feb 2005 5:06pm
there illegal if u can see the tube ^^like a few people have already stated

and if the light of the neons reflects off your exhaust thats illegal too aint it (im not too sure)

so get ya exhaust really dirty !! hehe laugh

think think think think
Confused as hell now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh

Yes or no answer on a good known example. If the police pull owen(neon O) for his blue undercar LED's or his interior neons. Can they prosecute on any of those items. As u know u cannot see any of his tubes, only the glow

Yes or no answer only!!!

Yay,rite then im gettin me another 5 LED tubes for inside my car and a full undercar neon kit,all in green obviously. Also need to prime my mouth for tellin the law to get lost when they tell me to turn em off haha.Cheers scoob!
Posted By: SL1D3R Re: Neon Lights - 23rd Jun 2005 3:18pm
even though not showing the bulbs or tubes are legal , failing to turn them off at an officers request is a bad idea! if they ask u to turn them off do so, dont tell them to **** off cos u will end up with a fine for that at least lol
