I am sure there is a law against this? Fog lights are dazzling to other road users....!

i don't think they should go to jail! it just annoys me. the majority that do it are boy racers.
"wahhhhhh check out me foggy's they give me 20+ bhp" typical chav quote wink
i just can't see why people do it?? I could understand if visability was really bad but most of the time its clear and not even dark yet!
IF you have your fog lights on people, why do you do it!? Also, why do you only have your 'side lights' on and fogs!!!! PMSL

What are peoples views on this? Does it annoy you?
Posted By: Mark Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 27th Nov 2004 6:42pm
It is against the law to use your fog light when visibility is +100 yards. (somthing like that).

In fairness some people just forget to turn it off. Some dash board displays are poor at reminding you that its still on.

Fogg lights are wired into your lights circut.
So you normally have to switch the lights
to at least "Side lights" to turn on the Fogg Light.

Hope this helps happy

I think people do it coz the fogs are lower than the headlights and hence make the car look lower. I agree it's really annoying on unlit roads, especially when they're following you coz you can't actually see ahead as easily! It doesn't really bother me on lit roads as it does no harm. Just my 2p smile

If someone has their fog lights on and it dazzles me, then i stick my full beam on smile Its good to give them a taste of their own medecine.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 27th Nov 2004 7:16pm
go ben!

but half the time they not even bothered!!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 27th Nov 2004 7:21pm
they all need their eyes burnt out with hot bright pokers!!!!

ITS NOT BIG, ITS NOT CLEVER, YOU LOOK (very) STUPID, IT DOES NOT MAKE YOUR CAR LOOK ANY BETTER, AND YOU DONT GO ANY FASTER, so WHY bother!!!

especially when your driving round urban/sub-urban area's where there's plenty of street lights!

i cant stand muppets who think its "cool" to have their foglights on.

biggest culprits i've seen are - new Clio's (especially black ones) new Corsa's, Focus's, BMW's (any model) and Saxo's.

I do tend to drive with my front "Driving Lamps" on, they are not "Fog Lights" and therefore it is Legal to drive with them on under Normal driving conditions.

I drive with them on for several reasons, Visability being first and foremost, they offer a much improved & Wider close sight of vision. Secondly i do think it improves the look of the car contary to some peoples opinions think

I Do agree with the majority here though, if they are "Fog Lamps" they do tend to blind you slightly and it is very annoying.

Just my pennies worth anyway's..........
i wouldnt say they look **** they look ****in wicked on my car and ill drive round with mine on!!!!hope no 1 takes offence by this!!!!! happy

mine r wird on a separate switch so the little piggys dont do me if i manage 2 spot em!!!!lol

I think what Vicki is gettin her Knickers in a twist (Ohhhh Errrrrhhh) about is people blinding you from behind due to the fog lamps being on and i find myself agreeing with her think think think , You car looks nice with them on but if they were blinding me then i'm sorry but you would get abused of me.......
i nt sure if they r proper fogs cause they were made with the bumper and i dought theyd make a body kit with propper fogs wen they r gonna b used all the time!!!!!

My dad does this too. Its funny actually. Once we were stopped at traffic lights at the top of Townfield Lane. Its a bit of an awkward junction as the traffic coming in the opposite direction is sort of... well not quite dead ahead of you... do you know what I mean?!? Anyway this chavvy person had her fogs on. My dad full beamed her whilst sitting waiting. She obviously was not happy as she started flashing. As she went past she shouted knob head at him. Me and my dad bust into a fit of giggles. It was so funny.

Fogs do annoy me. I think they just do it to make themselves look good. i.e. "Look at me, I have a car" etc

i have 2 pair of driving lamps in my bumper that i have on sometimes, i was never sure about the law so im very careful bout rozzers sein them, theyre not that bright and i think they do make the car look nicer. If someone has fogs on and blinds me headin towards me on a really dark road up here in jockland then i will hit em in the face with my 4 drivers and my ultra zenon hi beams.Hope they have to slam on cos they cant see the enbankments.T***s.Dazza do u ever notice ur rear foglight is on and u only realise when u move your head down and to the right to get round the s,wheel.Hu designed these cars.Think ill wire up a little led which ill put on my dash so i can see when my rears r on cos they(it) look aweful.Anyone know the legality of having two rear fogs. All cars ive seen only have one in the centre or the right hand one workin(i know that is the law) can u have two
just had a look b4 and mine r just drivin lights so no 1 can **** me off now!!

The law states that you must have at least one rear fog lamp positioned to the offside rear of the vehicle, secure and in a good working condition, Also there must be a "Warning Light" on the dashboard to indercate when your rear fog lamp is switched on. You can have 28 rear fog lights if you so wish as long as you meet the above criteria omg
Posted By: scoop Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 28th Nov 2004 7:46pm
thats it, im gonna wire up my nearside ont too for a sense of symetry and get a repeater warning light as i cant see my standard warnin light cos its hid behind the s/wheel.i can also not tell wen peeps flash me from behind to tell me cos of the tints

Just so all you people with driving lamps know, I researched the law before fitting the driving lamps to the top of the windscreen on the jeep. You can only use them with main beam legally. The beam pattern on driving lamps is alot longer and higher than fog lamps, hence if you use them 'round others then you're actually doing more damage than the fog light drivers! After reading that I decided to wire my driving lamps directly to the main beam on two switches so I can have the inner/outer ones on seperately to save the battery.
My front fogs on the jeep are on a totally seperate switch, and I only ever use them if I really need to happy
mine r wired with a separete switch so i can have them on in daylight or night!!!!!wicked 4 all them welsh lanes wen i go cruisin!!!!!
Posted By: scoop Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 1st Dec 2004 11:34pm
nver knew that. Cheersmjimbo u gr8 source of info.will take more care now only to use em on a quiet road and never blind peeps.Heres 1 pro of fogs, drivin lamps and usin hi beam on a quiet road u dont know. They lite up road signs and death cameras on the side of the road something rotten. wahoo

good man laugh good reaserch to! how can you tell the difference from looking at driving lamps and foglights though?

i've been told that my bumper lights are driving lamps and not foglights, but i still dont drive round with them on just out of politness for other drivers as i know how anoying it is for someone to be blinding you when on the road then turning round and saying "they're not foglights they're driving lamps" i dont give a s**t what they are they're still blinding me mad

The glass on fog lamps has a pattern of vertical lines running down them, and they look sort of frosted, like bathroom windows. Driving lamps have a more clear and spaced out pattern on the glass.

Here's a fog lamp:

Scoop iv never actually pressed it by mistake but i have in the past thought its a little hidden behind steering wheel so i wouldnt know if i did.
Posted By: Scooby Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 2nd Dec 2004 10:22am
If aligngned correctly then driving lamps wil not blind you, its the muppets that have them pointing all over the place. Similar to those drivers who drive around with there headlights not aligned correctly, not that does blind you, big time.....
Posted By: AX_125 Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 2nd Dec 2004 10:24am
I hate people that forget to turn their high beams of, people with one headlight out, people that insist on only having their side lights on and the majority of new shape clio drivers
Posted By: rossi-foci Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 2nd Dec 2004 5:12pm
fogs are a simimlar (but not the same league) type of thing as neons! they dont make ya car ne faster or nefin, but they make the car look that bit "cooler"!

Also on a similar rant.....What is goin on with volvo's automatic light thingys! Some days i'll be drivin round when the suns crackin the flags with me sunglasses on, and a vovlo will cruise past with its main beam on!
Innovative technology at the time maybe on old volvos, but "always on" style lights are just poor when its sunny and the lights r still on!
Posted By: scoop Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 2nd Dec 2004 5:27pm
I h8 that feature of volvos. The technology isnt innovative at all. u could fit it to ur own car with little money and a bit of effort using light sensors which cost almost nothing from a good leckie shop.Dazza, i dont think that i actually swith my fog on myself, it just does it on its own sometimes.it might be an induced voltage running through the switch on circuit.dunno.

I like the look of my car wiv fogs on BUT i rarely use them since changin my headlight bulbs as can now c properly again!!!

It does annoy me how many people drive wiv them on wen i did it once n got pulled n fined 4 it!!!

But 2 b honest, i dont think they dazzle unless u look at them!!!
Posted By: Meesh Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 10th Jan 2005 8:43pm
they dont dazzle ya unless ya look straight at them.

But personally I think it is pointless driving with ya foglights on in normal driving conditions....ESPECIALLY DURING THE DAY!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 11th Jan 2005 4:40pm
They can be very blinding when sitting in the passenger seat through the side mirror constantly shining in on your face and Im sure its just as bad for the driver
Posted By: dikky5 Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 11th Jan 2005 5:13pm

If sum1 full beams me for my foggies - I make sure I beam them back!! Make what they have done pointless!
Posted By: StuyMac Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 12th Jan 2005 4:41pm
I dont think fog lights are that bad round town, the street lighting kinda takes the dazzel out of them.

Its when the inconsiderate F****rs leave them on on motorways and country roads which are unlit - especially in the wet, thats when I find they tend to dazzel me mad

TBH they are almost totally useless - apart from looks in "normal" weather, as they are that low they reflect off the road, and the part they do tend to light is that close to the car its inconsiquential.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: My rant at Fog Light drivers! - 12th Jan 2005 4:49pm
If you don't purposly look at them they don't dazzle you. Not as much as the crazy fools who fail to turn their full beams off I find them useful when its sidelight time, rather than havin full headlights on!

Can't wait to meet you coming the other way when I'm in the jeep. I can turn night into day you know, there's 2 headlights, 2 foglights, 2 sidelights, and 4 driving lights on the front of that jeep! <img border="0" alt="[Roll around the floor laffin]" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions065.gif" />

Scoop, if you look where your second foglight would go then the wiring should be there ready for it.

Once somebody new to fords asked if ford had a habit of not finishing their cars, because he found the excess wire lol.

I think they changed to 1 fog light a certain year because people complained that they thought other drivers were braking lol.

Also i agree that in the Escort 6 the both fog light buttons are in a place you can't instantly see from your driving position....but i rarely use either anyway!

Kind regards,
Dan
