Right Ladies and Gentlemen, now the exams are over, I've had an idea. I'm thinking about doing a series of posts covering aspects of Law that people want to know about. It can be anything from buying a kettle to buying a house, getting married, getting divorced, making a will, criminal law, setting up a business, anti-social behaviour etc etc.

If there is anything that people want me to post general information about, let me know and I'll do individual posts about the basics.

Fingers etc crossed for you with the exams

One subject I did a bit of a post on a month or so ago was - Consumer Law.

So often these days you buy something eg PC World, TJ Hughes etc and if it goes a bit iffy

a. Straight away
b. After a month but less than 6 months
c. After 6 months
d. Outside the (sometimes) normal 12 month "guarantee"

Then you get all sorts of stories from the spotty youth behind the counter. Often this will be

"Ah well, what you have to do now Sir/ Madam is contact the manufacturer". More and more they try to say this ignoring the fact that the contract at purchase was with the SHOP.

There are then other aspects to consider

Did you buy it in a shop or over the net?
Did you pay cash or credit card

Good subject and I think useful to have a more authoritative view than my amateur ramlings of a month or so ago
