Looks good matey, I remember seeing this car as standard man... <img border="0" alt="doh" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions051.gif" />

You have modified the car nicely to your own style and done a good job of it.

It sounds awesome now with the straight through exhaust and rage backbox fitted. <img border="0" alt="[smokin]" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions036.gif" />

Keep up the good work matey, you must be well proud of ya motor ???

amazing mate. how far u gonna take it, got an engine chnge planned and any interior changes, the seats from a corsa sport could be an idea
Posted By: AX_125 Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 22nd Nov 2004 5:20pm
Looks a clean tidy example of a corsa.

Whats next?
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 24th Nov 2004 4:03pm
i wanna get a corsa sport interior with door cards i heard there was one in a scrappy on clevland strret but im skint, i also wanna get the alarm upgraded to central lockin an get the doors de-locked, bodywork wise i wanna get the boot smoothed
Posted By: rossi-foci Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 24th Nov 2004 4:42pm
dont take my word for it, but my mate got one of them remote-start, central locking alrams off ebay for £35. aparantly ther ded cheap and pretty good. he took it to an auto electrician who tested it and said it was all in good workin order and seemed a bargain! you can also get the kits that open your doors etc frm the same place. i dunno if theyre actually any good, but worth lookin on ebay if u want an alarm!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 25th Nov 2004 12:12pm
when you look at buying an alarm surely you look for which is going to protect your car better than any other before looking at all the extras it has dont you?

i did anyway tease and with the alarm i have i have the option of adding remote start, window closure, headlight activation, and all the other goodies at a later date smile
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 25th Nov 2004 6:33pm
wen i picked my alarm i picked it to protect the car, not ***** about how effective there are for addin solinoid buttons an stuff theres ways an means around everytin
Posted By: scoop Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 26th Nov 2004 4:00pm
john, wud u fancy buyin a set of front brake discs and pads. my bro got a set for his corsa and wrote it off b4 fittem em, theyre grooved discs and greenstuff pads from ebc. i think theyll b a bigger size than ur existin ones too so u may need to buy calipers from a sport but i dunno, wot u think dude. he might have his smoked lexus lights too
Posted By: rossi-foci Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 26th Nov 2004 4:42pm
yeah, obviously security is the main reason for gettin an alarm, all i was gettin at is that you can get some pretty cool featured ones off ebay for cheap! hmm fink al start a topic on alarms lol! tease
Posted By: DavidB Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 27th Nov 2004 8:11pm
Looks so much better with those bumpers, really stands out and the colour looks better with them, unsual but looks really nice.

My alarm cost stupid money, and as a consequence I spend half the time trying to get back into the car that locked me out!

Did you get my pm about the scrap Corsa in Dixon's?
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 29th Nov 2004 5:42pm

Posted By: scoop Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 2nd Dec 2004 7:55pm
ur car is ace mate. Doorcards shouldt be hard at all, mines like 10 screws and one in the doorhandle area and on ein the handggrip.would take me 4 1/2 mins to replace one of mine, vaux must be mad
door cards are a piece of **** i did mine the other day in 5 mins and that was 2 take off and put back on!!! all u need 2 remember is the central lockin pin liftit over and watch the door handles!!!!just make sure u take all the screws out cuz i ****** around 4 10 mins realisin i hadnt undone 1 screw so be warned m8!!!!!then its a case of just rippin it off!!!!!!!

i also did a few other lil things like taped up the bk led so the bar isnt visable thro the bumper

i also put all the plastic bits bk in the car that i had to remove to put the sport seats in.

an finally i hav fitted a neon to the boot light to glow up the install all in all a gud day an a cheap one at that
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 24th Jan 2005 1:41pm

Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 11th Feb 2005 10:18am

have you thought about getting bigger alloys or are you happy with the ones youve got at the moment
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 12th Feb 2005 8:21pm
im into the smooth euro look so the smaller the beta but i have bin contemplatin bigger rims but only if they cum up at a gud price
Posted By: scoop Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 12th Feb 2005 8:25pm
I reckon u shud stay small mate. Low profile tires but on small wheels. Maybe a change of design tho for somethin dead euro.Like them O.Z ones where its like a frisbee with dead short spokes goin from the frisbee to the rim edge.Know wot i mean??
Posted By: Anonymous Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 17th Feb 2005 6:58pm
I like the ones you have John so keep them thumbsup

But if you are going to get bigger rims then a suggest getting 5 spokes as these look sweet on Corsa's. Just my opinion anyway smile
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 17th Feb 2005 7:29pm
today i striped the bk seats out an everythin in the bk so its down to the metal an hopefully i can hav the false floor in an maybe get the inside metal bits sprayed an ploshed up

pingu did thata while ago, looked well smart, but he didn't have a sub in his.
becarefull though cos anything you put ontop of the false floor is easily seen, and if you put the amp under the floor, its got a higher chance of overheating, so you might have to look into getting some additional cooling fans for it
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 18th Feb 2005 4:35pm
gonna prob cover the floor in acoustic cloth so the ice wont b seen an i planing to mount the amps on the dropdown part of the rear seats(ie where your calfs wud b if you were sittin in the bk seats,

just placed the bk doorcards bk in an the boot panels in an hopefully the floor will still go in an look ok.

hopefully in the future i will prob get buckets but as it stands the racein front seats dont look to bad im just abit short on funds

Never said that mate,ever.

Corsas are common but johns is so different to the rest. Hes done his properly and very very tastefully.

Corsas piss me off when they stick a kit on,leave the arch bits grey, fit 16s with the wrong offset and call it a finished project.

Johns done it all properly and it ticks all the boxes, its ticking more everyday.

John, Shocks Will NOT lower it further, shock absorbers simply dampen the spring action, they stop the spring osilating (Going bouncy, Bouncy, Bounce) and thats it. Its the springs that determine the ride height.

I had a sneak preview whilst down at Automotion the other day and i got to say mate, i was well well impressed happy

Smooth boots, it's just the pain of where to put the number plate without spoiling the smoothness of it. frown

I would've agreed with Scooby, the shocks don't reduce any height, the pistons just sit loose in the cylinder and go up and down, adjustables only tighten up the bound.

But dont forget you have bigger wheels, so it will look like the car sits higher at the back.

When i put my steelies on my ka it looked so low because of the smaller 13" wheels.

Okay, what do i know anyways think

Maybe your springs are higher poundage therefore no sag, or maybe they are not a true 60mm drop, maybe the diamater of your tyres is larger than the other corsa your comparing it against, but you spend your hard earned pennies on shox and then come back and tell me that your car is still the same height.

Posted By: scoop Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 21st Nov 2005 12:31am
As for the argument reference shocks. Aftermarket shocks have a SHORTER piston so even when its fully extended its not as extended as the standard item. Its also a lot stiffer which helps control the spring. Standard shocks will let the spring bounce loads wheras a good set of koni dampers will try to hold the spring still more so it only rises and falls really slowly(in comparison) this makes the car handle a lot better by reducing roll and lowering the centre of gravity (in combination with the springs)

Springs should not be changed without matching dampers, especially if goin any lower than a 35mm drop.

For instance standard dampers and -80mm springs. The springs would fully compress and the coils would all touch eachother as the soft vaux dampers can not prevent the spring movement as well as koni items for instance. And when u only have an inch or two of travel in the spring the STANDARD damper dont stand a chance as its soft

the bilstein shocks didnt make much diff at all as they were an OE part (origninal part - not a shorter shock) but these are new springs again mate i hav replaced the corsa apex 60s for nova spax 60's

the tires dont touch the arches at all so the ride hasnt changed at all just abit harder! as for the pennies situation i originally bought a set of apex 60s for 62quid an i only used the back ones so i sold the 60mm front an my old 40mm backs to a mate for 60quid so they cost me 2quid

an i bout the nova springs for 25 quid an b4 i had even picked em up i had sold my corsa60s for 25 then 10quid postage so i these hav cost me nought raftl raftl

if an upraded shock dusnt lower cars further cos u explain to me why they are shorter?
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 4th Dec 2005 7:25pm
cos surely if there shorter they must compress the spring more?

or is that just me?
Posted By: lazy_ben Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 4th Dec 2005 8:16pm
I always thought the springs determine the ride height.

Short shocks are used to stop bottoming out. They have a shorter, stiffer rebound/damping too i think.

Looks nice though John.

Looks like a little beast, very tidy.
Standard Nova springs drop it quite a distance for some reason, btw.
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 5th Dec 2005 1:24am
its only cos the corsa is alot heavier then the nova so the springs get compressed more, im lovin the ride height an i wud def advise any1 with a corsa b to buy them if u wana go lower then ur desired drop

cheers for the comments peeps, thats one thing i try to pride me car on, it may not b totally rust free or imaculate paint work but i sure try my best to keep it in as best condition as poss
Posted By: Sanchez Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 5th Dec 2005 1:27am
thats what its all about john, pride, who care s what any one things, as long as you like it matey laugh
Posted By: Scooby Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 5th Dec 2005 1:29am
Okay, a shorter spring requires a shorter shock as the travel is less on the shorter spring than a standard spring. Thats it mate......

But if you want a full explanation :

  • Shock Absorbers : (Dampers)

Unless a dampening structure is present, a car spring will extend and release the energy it absorbs from a bump at an uncontrolled rate. The spring will continue to bounce at its natural frequency until all of the energy originally put into it is used up. A suspension built on springs alone would make for an extremely bouncy ride and, depending on the terrain, an uncontrollable car.
Enter the shock absorber, or damper, a device that controls unwanted spring motion through a process known as dampening. Shock absorbers slow down and reduce the magnitude of vibratory motions by turning the kinetic energy of suspension movement into heat energy that can be dissipated through hydraulic fluid. To understand how this works, it's best to look inside a shock absorber to see its structure and function.

[Linked Image]

A shock absorber is basically an oil pump placed between the frame of the car and the wheels. The upper mount of the shock connects to the frame (i.e., the sprung weight), while the lower mount connects to the axle, near the wheel (i.e., the unsprung weight). In a twin-tube design, one of the most common types of shock absorbers, the upper mount is connected to a piston rod, which in turn is connected to a piston, which in turn sits in a tube filled with hydraulic fluid. The inner tube is known as the pressure tube, and the outer tube is known as the reserve tube. The reserve tube stores excess hydraulic fluid.

When the car wheel encounters a bump in the road and causes the spring to coil and uncoil, the energy of the spring is transferred to the shock absorber through the upper mount, down through the piston rod and into the piston. Orifices perforate the piston and allow fluid to leak through as the piston moves up and down in the pressure tube. Because the orifices are relatively tiny, only a small amount of fluid, under great pressure, passes through. This slows down the piston, which in turn slows down the spring.

Shock absorbers work in two cycles -- the compression cycle and the extension cycle. The compression cycle occurs as the piston moves downward, compressing the hydraulic fluid in the chamber below the piston. The extension cycle occurs as the piston moves toward the top of the pressure tube, compressing the fluid in the chamber above the piston. A typical car or light truck will have more resistance during its extension cycle than its compression cycle. With that in mind, the compression cycle controls the motion of the vehicle's unsprung weight, while extension controls the heavier, sprung weight.

All modern shock absorbers are velocity-sensitive -- the faster the suspension moves, the more resistance the shock absorber provides. This enables shocks to adjust to road conditions and to control all of the unwanted motions that can occur in a moving vehicle, including bounce, sway, brake dive and acceleration squat.

  • Struts :

Another common dampening structure is the strut -- basically a shock absorber mounted inside a coil spring. Struts perform two jobs: They provide a dampening function like shock absorbers, and they provide structural support for the vehicle suspension. That means struts deliver a bit more than shock absorbers, which don't support vehicle weight -- they only control the speed at which weight is transferred in a car, not the weight itself.

How the hell did you get those rear seats in there?!
Did you wire the front ones up though?
Get the door cards trimmed with leather, son.
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 17th Mar 2006 8:48pm
just gonna get black door cards outa the standard corsas cos there jet black like lawtons

got rear bench in exactly the same as wen i 1st fitted it except this time i just bent the copper frame inwards around the sahpe of the cage so its snug

really happy with it especially from the outside
Posted By: DavidB Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 18th Mar 2006 1:56am
You should've got the seat belt connectors out of the Caibra, and then put them through the holes in the bench. wink
I've got about 2 inches of space behind the front seats, thanks to the bench being so big and comfy, I've fell asleep many times on there when I've been hard at work.
Did you get them heated though? There's a wire underneath!
Posted By: lawton Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 18th Mar 2006 11:25am
no, he hasnt got them heated, i havent got mine heated but i want too, going to look into it, see if there easy to hook up or not,

that a good idea about the calibra seat belt connectors, think a trip to the scrappys will be made, nice one stationMiek

Swish mate, like it alot. Wheels and lights go really well together. Install's nice, do some side panels and take the light out, then wire in some L.E.D's and it'll look spot on.
Posted By: Scooby Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 18th May 2006 9:40pm
John, seen the car in Automotion recently and im loving it.... happy

I really admire your style, carnt put my finger on what it is i like so much but the car is cewl thumbsup
Posted By: CorsaJohn Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 18th May 2006 9:50pm
jimbo im not blockin off the side panels but wen i get a spare day i will b makin side bits that extend out to the shape of the panels hopefuly with the help of lawton

cheers for the comments scooby , its always good to hear good feedback, the cars definetly startin to show its 12yr old life now and i would love to give it a fresh new coat of paint in the same colour but i just wonder whether its worth it with the engine pushin on 93,000
Posted By: lawton Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 18th May 2006 11:04pm
engine would do another 30,000 easily, if looked after properly, looking good mate, as soon as ive sorted my car out, well do those extra side bits for the install, maybe next week or the week after, before pvs defo

installs looking tidy john boy, keep up the good work
Posted By: scoop Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 19th May 2006 3:50pm
Oh so ur in the same boat as BKD then,BKD wants a bigger car now but the insurance on his escort in his own name would be too much to think about let alone a turbo'd golf/audi.

Im glad ive built my NCB cos that means i can have a 200SX when i have the cash for the car,the insurance is gonna be less than what im paying now on the escort, and to insure the escort next year theyll prob want 400 or less FC
Posted By: Johnny Alan Re: CorsaJohns : Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i - 19th May 2006 5:30pm
