Sorry i missed this walk, wanted to see and explore the lodge as well as it looks lovely as do the grounds. Hopefully do the walk again before the summer is over.

Earl of Shrewsbury probably. Whence "Shrewsbury Rd" & lots of other roads in Oxton named after family links. Did a post about it ages ago.

As a boy I had to deliver newspapers here in the late 1950s ....I can remember looking through tea-chests of books that had been left in the courtyard waiting to be thrown out ....hundreds of hardback books ...many over a hundred years old ....wish I had the foresight then to realize how valuable they probably were....the house was empty but in the gardens close to the empty ornamental pond they still had carcases of the sparrow-hawks set in the forks of the bushes surrounding the pond ....wonderful interior ...even as a boy I was impressed ....now I am so saddened to see that very few people care about the wonderful history that Birkenhead has to offer .

Earl of Shrewsbury probably"

Almost certainly - the particular Earl's wife was called Eleanor giving the name to Eleanor road.
