One of the largest current campaigns in the UK has begun as recruitment gets underway to fill over 29,000 temporary part time and full time vacancies to make the 2011 Census a success – and we need your help! A total of 35,000 people will be required to deliver the census, which will take place on 27 March 2011. The majority of vacancies are for Census Collectors who contact householders to collect completed census questionnaires and assist where required. Over 29,000 of these roles are available in 2,000 locations across England and Wales. These roles provide flexibility around working hours – there is the choice of working 15, 25 or 37 hours a week, so individuals can fit the work around their current commitments. There are still vacancies for Census Coordinators to lead and motivate a team of approximately 15 field staff and for Special Enumerators to deliver questionnaires to organisations such as care homes, hotels, prisons etc. and help with their completion. Go to: Census jobs for more details These are great opportunities to earn some extra cash close to home, as well as helping out the local community. Information from the census will be used to make important decisions around future policies, planning, services and funding for local communities for years to come. Good luck everybody!!!

This time I got an out of date certificate, but went got onto the site and just applied,my wife and I do geneology,so it will be great fun if I get the chance,my real wish would be to win the lottery, but I don't do it,lol, and go and buy the same house as my great, great grandad had lived in the 1841 and do the 2011 census in it,now that would screw the family geneologists in a hundred years,

I have very neat handwriting so at least any census records that i complete will be eligible as some of the ones i've viewed have been a nightmare to read.

I've done the Census Collector job twice and it ain't much fun. You get loads of abuse and refusals to complete the form, especially if the media start having a go about the questions being asked. Most of the work has to be done in the evenings and weekends cos it's hard to find anyone in during the day. Money comes in handy though!

I'm a genealogy nut too and the old censuses are brilliant. Not sure how accurate or useful the more recent ones are going to be for our ancestors - apparently in the 2001 census almost 400,000 people put their religion down as 'Jedi Knight'! I'm going to photocopy my form this time and put it with the family papers. Might save my ancestors a couple of bob when they're released in 2111.

I think the 2011 census is going to go like the 1st one's,as a lot of people will "disappear",as I have heard the questions are a lot more personal than a goverment should ask of it's employer's and heavy fines for the same if some are left unanswered.
