Type: Picnic Site
Wirral has an abundance of pretty spots, ideal for relaxed picnics and days out. Try Leasowe Common, The Gunsite, Wirral Country Park, Royden Park or West Kirby Beach for a great day out!

Leasowe Common
At the heart of the North Wirral Coastal Park, not far from Moreton Train Station and with plenty of free car parking. Toilets and café nearby. Adjacent Moreton Beach has highest European Standard water quality (2007) and is manned by Lifeguards during the summer months. Nearby Leasowe Lighthouse. Oldest brick-built lighthouse in the country. (Open 1st and 3rd Sundays in the month throughout summer)

The Gunsite
Situated at the Eastern end of the North Wirral Coastal Park, a short walk from The Derby Pool Public House and Restaurant, off Bayswater Road (Wallasey). Sand dunes and meadow grassland. Plenty of free car parking including next to the Wallasey Embankment sea wall with fantastic views over Leasowe Bay. Sandy beach area or a short walk away is Wallasey Beach which has the highest European Standard water quality (2007) and is manned by Lifeguards during the summer months. Public toilets at the Derby Pool Public House or Harrison Drive by Wallasey Beach. Pitch and putt golf course at Wallasey Beach.

Wirral Country Park
Thurstaston Visitor Centre with displays, toilets and information open 10am - 5pm every day during the summer. Large areas of short cut grassland and adjacent beach. (Steep stepped access to beach). Fenced off barbecue area (must be booked in advance) and picnic benches scattered throughout. Spectacular views over the Dee Estuary to Wales. Walks along the old disused railway line (Wirral Way) to West Kirby (2,5 miles away) or as far as Hooton in Cheshire (10 miles away). Plenty of free car parking, with café and separate sweet and ice cream kiosk.

Royden Park
Victorian Walled Garden, grassland, meadowland and woodland. Includes Thurstaston Hill and Thor's stone (an historic local landmark). Toilets adjacent to large free car park. Displays and exhibitions take place within the Coach House on some weekends during summer. Miniature steam train rides also throughout the summer (weather permitting).

West Kirby Beach
One of four Wirral Bathing Beaches to receive the highest European Water Quality Standard (2007). Pony rides, bouncy castle, ice cream kiosk, toilets, all available during the summer. Lifeguards also on patrol during the summer months. Busy sandy beach popular with water sports and kite fliers. Free parking along the promenade and also pay and display car park. The Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve is a two mile walk away at low water (crossing times are posted daily in the main noticeboard by the beach). Nearby supermarket and town of West Kirby with cafes, bars etc.
