More police, no empty shops and stopping vandalism in play areas… these issues have all been highlighted by Bidston and Claughton residents who are helping to develop a tailored neighbourhood plan for their area of Wirral.

Local volunteers from St. James Opportunity Shop on Laird Street have been talking to Councillor Steve Foulkes and Councillor Jean Stapleton about their community and explaining what they need in the future.

The discussions are part of a huge consultation to establish the visions and requirements of local residents through a whole range of Council, community and voluntary sector events. Feedback will contribute towards eleven individual neighbourhood plans in recognition of the fact that one single approach to services does not necessarily address the different priorities that exist amongst Wirral’s diverse communities.

Kath who works in Bidston St. James said:

“There are a number of empty shops and derelict properties around Laird Street and I feel strongly about addressing this. There are lots of things I think are fantastic about this area and would like to see it improved so that it can reach its full potential and benefit the local community. I hope that other people will let the Council know what they think so that plans for the future reflect the real views of those who live here.”

Speeding traffic, dog control orders and litter are just some of the other issues highlighted by people living in Bidston and Claughton.

Councillor Jean Stapleton, Cabinet Member for Customer and Community Engagement explained: “The feedback that we are getting from local people from across Wirral is really making a difference. Only they are able to give us a true picture of what the issues and opportunities are in their neighbourhood and this insight is going to be essential to developing neighbourhood plans that really address what residents want.”

Any Wirral residents can contribute towards their neighbourhood plan. Simply visit www.wirral.gov.uk/neighbourhood and complete an online questionnaire or visit your local library, One Stop Shop or Children’s Centre to get a paper version. Alternatively, you can call 0151 691 8650 to speak to someone and they will make sure that your views are logged.
