I want to install Security cameras after some night time visits by the local scutters.

Police advise that I install cameras rather than deploying razor wire and land mines.

Anyone any advice on whats a good system and likely price?

Thanks

K

I don't have CCTV but looked at it around 18 months ago after an incident in the car park where i live.

Depending on your budget, you can either go for conventional CCTV with security lights OR infrared CCTV, if you want multiple cameras set up and if you have a decent budget i'd suggest you went with infrared, i believe it has better picture quality.

Obviously you're also gonna need a hard drive DVR thing to record it all on, some systems come with one, but you can also buy them separate. Again, i have zero experience i only know because i was looking once.

Sorry i couldn't be much more help.

Landmines and barbed wire would be more fun though. As would paintball guns and water bombs.

Personally I use Comelit DVR and HD Cameras. Anything less and you can't get a good enough image for an ID. The Comelit cams are excellent at night.
If you have multiple cams you can access one cam at a time. Then using the mouse supplied and then pulling a box over the area you want, you can enlarge the image dramatically.
Take a trip to Moreton Alarms on the dock road and ask about them.

Thanks for both your comments, J Demo and Habdab, I have absolutely no knowledge about this and now have a good starting point, unfortunately we have had a few incursions in recent months.

Really would like to capture these dirty mouth breathers, I fear a meeting wouldn't end well so hoping the cams put some space between us.

A quick scout around the garden showed a few trampled plants, a weed grinder and lighter, one love! So generous.

The police now have prints, some low quality weed and a video of 3 tracksuited rats walking down Seabank Road thanks to a neighbours camera.

It depends on how much you wish to spend. I had an Aver media setup for years and thought it was good quality; until I saw the Comelit setup. As in most things in life, you get what you pay for. Although saying that, the Comelit are excellent value.
Yes, you can buy a system off eBay for half the price, but you end up with less than half the quality and if as you say, you want it to ID the little darlings, you need quality. You can also buy HD zoom cams to pick up faces in detail as they enter your property. Not the Pan, tilt & zoom type, just an HD cam with a manual zoom & focus control that you set and leave.
On my system I can clearly read a car registration from 60-70 meters away. Most modern cameras nowadays come with IR fitted, The night vision is spectacular, it automatically drops the camera into B&W under low light levels to improve picture quality. The only way around that is to fit an automatic flood light, then you can see what colour clothes they wear. (Then that way you can provide them with some light so they can grind their weed in comfort).
You can hook the whole system up to your internet and watch your home from anywhere in the world using the internet and a smartphone app.
If you decide to go down the CCTV route you'll need the DVR, some Cameras, a power supply for the Cams and cabling. (I think they sell "Shotgun" cables). these are pre-made and save you having to put the connectors on the wires. If you're going to use your TV as a Monitor, you'll need an HDMI cable to connect the DVR to the telly. If you want a dedicated monitor ask the guy in the shop about which cables you'll need to connect to it.
Hope that helps

Be warned, once you go down the CCTV road it can get addictive.

If you are looking at the budget DIY route, after a lot of research I got an ANNKE system who sell on ebay.

Make sure you get an AHD system (cameras and DVR) if you are getting a wired system. Numerous advantages to them.

I don't recommend wireless cameras (purely from research, I've never tried them).

Plan out your cameras before you buy, if you need 5 cameras and you have bought a 4 camera DVR you are snookered, I went straight in with an 8 channel DVR and 4 cameras and will be getting the extra cameras sometime.

Place cameras where you can clean them, the lenses need a wipe and/or spiderweb removal every now and then.

Don't put cameras too high, you usually want to see faces, not haircuts or hoodies.

Watch out when comparing prices of systems, many don't include the hard drive but some do.

i bought one last weekoff ebay.. i personally think its fab
cost me 60 quid, 8 channels, 4 cams but no hard drive, priced that as 35 quid for 1tb so thats next on list .. 8 channels means i can add another 4 cams when i can afford more and it took me, a mere female, less than 30 mins to have it all set up and running through my tv/pc's and iphone
all the cams are wired, but for outside hoped id manage through the windows... but nope lol all i got was reflection of the cam hahaha especially when it rained .. so housing will now love me as ive screwed them into the new windows window ledges ooops
mines called floureon came with 60 feet of wire for each cam and power leads for all.
