The BBC has reportedly said it will not launch a formal inquiry into its Panorama programme which alleged Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer had been murdered.
This week the Jamaican police confirmed Woolmer had died of natural causes.
The edition of Panorama, called Murder at the World Cup was broadcast on April 30. In the programme, reporter Adam Parsons claimed that Woolmer had been poisoned and strangled during the cricket World Cup in the Caribbean earlier this year.
On Tuesday night, Parsons appeared on BBC One's 10 O'Clock News, acknowledging that the original Panorama report had been wrong.
According to The Guardian, the BBC plans to broadcast a special follow-up programme at the beginning of July, which would include an interview with the Jamaican police deputy commissioner, Mark Shields. I think its right that there shouldnt be an inquiry, all the BBC were doing was investigating general public belief and both police and media speculation at the time of the broadcast.
