Our TV is giving up the ghost and i give it a month before it conks out completely (atm its losing sound after a few hours use (once its hot) so it has to be turned off for a few hours and occasionally it loses or distorts the pic too, so as we're getting a new one,i thought may aswell go HD as theres no point buying a non HD one as it'll help for when i get a PS3,and it'll be compatable with the future, unlike non HD which will be obsolete soon i can only assume

Went to currys earlier and fell in love with a 42 inch samsumg thats costs a cool 1200 notes!! really cant afford that sort of money....but, the quality of all the others looked shite in comparison (nowhere near as sharp and it wasnt even a HD thing showing on the screen) and this tv is TRUE HD,unlike MANY of the socalled HDTVs, its 1080P so can play xbox360 and PS3 to its full potential unlike the 720P TVs

SkyHD runs 720P so cheap HDTVs can run skyHD at the full potential of the sky box (skyHD is lower quality than HDDVD and the 2 new games consoles due to bandwidth limits on transmissions)

So i think i'll be getting this TV in january, but from this website here ex display boxes and ones that have been scratched in transit etc....unless i fall in love with another before then

One thing remember that SD tv's wont become obsolete for maybe 30 years. There simply isnt enough bandwidth available on DTT for this to happen.

WARNING - Be very careful with Clearence Comet - I have bought a VCR and a TV off them in the past. The TV didnt work properly and they ended up having to take it back. The VCR has a bent loading mechanism, took it to the Comet in Bromborough as I was advised to do by the Clearence support telephone staff, and the store refused to refund it. They told me to take it to the service centre in B'head, who then told me take it to the nearest store and ask for a refund.

Again the store refused to issue a refund, after the Clearance support staff had contacted them to tell them to. In the end the clearance staff forced the shop to issue a refund (it wasnt like I wanted a refund, I bought the VCR again, only as brand new and for extra money in the shop there and then) and made a formal complaint with the area management about the stores refusal to issue a refund, which they should have without issue was clearly stated at the time on the website.

Im not saying the clearance staff themselves were bad, they bent over backwards to try and help me resolve the situation. But the problem was firstly that the goods were both faulty and secondly don't expect the Comet stores to offer any support or refunds (as they are supposed to, especially for smaller items), even when the clearance department tell them too!

You would be better off looking at the likes of Empire Direct/Ebuyer/Dabs/Hughes Direct for a discount price.

And HD isnt all its made out to be anyway, I have been running HD trailers and movies etc since 2005 on two different sets (expensive XD engined LG Flatron and cheaper Dual set) and to be honest they are no better then a standard transmission unless a. you are right upto the TV or b. you have a real need to see peoples hairs and wrinkles. Personally I can live without HD, I couldnt live without Sky+ on the other hand...

Just wait for UltraHD.... All these fancy HD TV's will be obsolete too in 15 years lmao! grin

apparently the TV im getting is the one that some chimps refer to as UltraHD ,wheras its actually one of the only ones that is TrueHD,TrueHD is also known as FullHD/UltraHD because its 1080P,most HD sets are only 720P/1080i

I looked online last night matty and i found that veryTV for just 900 quid on an online site brand new so i think i'd rather own that one than an ex-display comet one which may be fooked and covered in scratched from people touching them

My dad knows alot about things like this as as said that the quality of the current HD Tvs is strictly what a typical HD screen should be - This is why we havnt gotten rid of are Philips widescreen as he's waiting for the top quality HD Tvs to drop alittle in price.

Scoop, check out the PS3 GT5 topic for HD viewers smile

Just to avoid any confusion by UltraHD, I meant the HD replacement format. Stupidly high resolution lmao (7680x4320 16:9 iirc). Its also known as Hi Vision or something...

Yes I would certainly buy the TV brand new from an online retailer, saves any hassle in the long run.

smile
