THE Magazine Charity Pairs Cup was played on Saturday and after a very long days play in excellent conditions the winners were the Manor Road pairing of Jim Bunting and Nick Murray who beat Ellen Leverton and Sandra Astles in the final.

Jim and Nick played very well throughout the day and thoroughly deserved their victory. Ellen and Sandra must be wondering what they have to do to win this event as they were also the beaten finalists in last year’s event.

On Sunday, West Kirby Victoria’s Dave Gilmore won his 3rd Wallasey Merit Title on a sun drenched Royden Hall green beating Queens Royal’s Steve Scott in an excellent final.

The green was in perfect condition and this led to some great bowling. Gilmore just pipped Eddie Clayburn in the Quarter Final and he then had a fine win against Geoff Lynch.

Scott had to beat last year’s winner Les Henderson and another teammate, Frank O’Neill, to reach the final.

Results: Quarter Finals: S. Scott 21, L. Henderson 11; F. O’Neill 21, S. Wharton Jnr 12; G. Lynch 21, B. Leonard 19; D. Gilmore 21, E. Clayburn 18. Semi Finals: Scott 21, O’Neill 16; Gilmore 21, Lynch 15. Final: Gilmore 21, Scott 16.
