TRANMERE Rovers have cancelled the contract of striker Michael Ricketts this afternoon by mutual consent.

Ricketts joined Rovers on a one year contract in August, but made just eight starts out of a possible 27 appearances for the First Team and has not started a game since November.

Manager Les Parry said: "Michael's chances of starting matches here have been restricted by the form of Ian Thomas-Moore, Craig Curran, Terry Gornell and Chris Shuker.

"At this stage of his career Michael felt that he needed to play regular first team football so we've decided to give him the chance to join another club where he will get an opportunity to play.

"During his time at the club Michael has been a valuable member of the squad and has conducted himself professionally at all times. I wish him all the best for the rest of his career."

Rovers drew 0-0 with Oldham at Boundary Park in League One action on Wednesday night and take on MK Dons at Stadium MK on Saturday afternoon, in a fixture which starts at 3pm.

Parry's squad are back on home turf at Prenton Park next Tuesday, January 26, for a rearranged game against Yeovil Town (7.45pm).

The fixture was originally due to be played last Saturday, but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
