wouldnt you think after loyal service , they could be found retirement homes. They are not trained as attack dogs, theyre sniffer dogs.Unless they are mentally damaged and so not safe, considering they are presumably obedient and well trained, its hard to believe there are no private homes to be found let alone possibly be retrained to sniff out people trapped or lost etc.
Ive signed . There may be circumstances we dont know about that make euthanasia the right choice, but at least a petition will make the options be looked at more openly .

They have probably been trained to be vicious killers and are not safe for a family environment.

A police dog may be trained to bring down a fleeing criminal or demonstrator without killing him. But you can't take that chance with an enemy armed with a kalashnikov. They are probably trained to go for the throat.

Signed.

They are trained to sniff and attack but they have been offered homes by experienced handlers who know what they are doing. All dogs are dangerous in the wrong circumstances and it usually turns out to be the stupid owners to blame because they couldn't care less, are ignorant, or are oblivious to the dangers some dogs pose.

Thanks everyone. Please share with your friends etc. Capt. America you are quite correct .These are just a few who need are help & yes there are trained handlers willing to give them a home. Some of these handlers are alive today because of the bravery of these animals .

Trained to sniff and attack? I've no great objection to being sniffed, but I draw the line at being attacked. Sounds to me that they are weapons, not pets, and it is virtually impossible to 'untrain' them. There is a lot of truth in the saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". The army would be barmy to release them to a doting doggy-loving public. They would be held liable for any resulting attack which would almost certainly come. Best shot if you ask me.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the people for training them this way.

142,559 kind people have signed so far. Perhaps unlike Excoriator they have read the story leading to this appeal. These dogs are not trained killers they are sniff, save & rescue animals.Im sure anyone who is trapped would be glad to hear a friendly bark leading rescuers to them. I'm all in favour of keeping so called dangerous dogs off the road .Dangerous dogs ..... Dangerous owners

They've been reprieved.

We don't need any remarks about the Sun newspaper. The fact is, the dogs are safe.

Any possibility that this was a carefully managed story that enabled a new secretary of satate for defence to 'step in' and provide a high profile reprieve for the dogs?

Or is that too cynical a view of an ex tory chief whip looking for publicity in a new role?
