The man's body was found on Friday near an unclassified road at Horeb, near Five Roads, Carmarthenshire.

The body was removed from the scene and a forensic examination of the area was carried out.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place during the weekend in order to establish how the man died.

The road is open from Five Roads to Horeb but closed just beyond, in order for further examination of the scene to be carried out, said Det Insp Richard Evans from Dyfed Powys Police.

Diversions have been put in place.

"Anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the Five Roads area during the last week, or has any information regarding a missing friend or relative is asked to contact the incident room," said Det Insp Evans.

Speaking on Friday, councillor Jim Jones said: "I heard that the discovery was made by council workers today and they immediately phoned the police."

"They were there within 10 minutes."

He said he was returning from Llanelli to Five Roads at 1415 BST when he noticed that Horeb Road was closed and there was a lot of police activity.

"I don't know any more than that apart from apparently it is a body," he added.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room at Llanelli on 0845 330 2000.
