Man charged with PO armed robbery

A 24-year-old man has been charged with armed robbery and drugs offences after a raid on Briton Ferry Post Office near Neath on Wednesday.

Police said the suspect was due to appear before magistrates later.

A 28-year-old man also held on suspicion of armed robbery remains in custody at Neath Police Station.

Police said their investigation into the alleged robbery on Neath Road in which sub postmaster Andrew Ball sustained facial injuries was ongoing.

Detective Inspector Jason Davies of Neath Port Talbot CID said: "The incident at Briton Ferry Post Office prompted a firearms operation which involved the search of several properties in Neath Port Talbot and led to the arrest of two suspects.

"I would like to thank the community of Briton Ferry who have responded to our inquiries and our appeals in the media to provide information which has been of great value to the investigation.

"Our inquiries continue and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any persons acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the post office, including the wooded area at the rear of the premises, between 0700 and 0930 BST on Wednesday or in the days or weeks leading up to this incident, to come forward with information."
