On World Service news, this morning.
In what has been called their scattershot approach to economic development ( in so much as it was badly organized, ill thought out and not monitored) , The Pentagon arranged recently for 9 extremely rare, expensive Italian blonde Cashmere stud goats to be sent to W. Afganistan ,for breeding.
The $6 million program included setting up a farm, lab and staff to certify their wool, to support and enhance the struggling cashmere industry there. The project would have created a further few hundred much needed jobs.
To be fair, the Afghans were delighted with the goats and very grateful. Yum Yum.
