The world’s most expensive military cemetery, a £22.6 billion centre dubbed “The Boneyard”, has been pictured in a spectacular series of new high-resolution Google Earth satellite images. The 60 year-old facility, the size of 1,300 football pitches and sprawled across the desert in Tucson, Arizona, houses the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) and is America's only storehouse for out-of-service aircraft.
Now for the first time, a series of stunning high resolution satellite images of the four-square-mile facility, nicknamed “the Boneyard”, have been produced by Google Earth.

That's mad - spotted that before. What a horrendous waste. Why don't they weigh them all in?

Because it is so dry out there some of them are kept in preservation and can be put back into service at minimum cost. You'd be surprised at a lot of the waste in this country as well. But there must be a bally's yard out there somewhere I suppose.

They also Chop them up were they sit and then leave them there for other satellites to see as part of some program for decommissioning.

Some of them are a strange colour because they've been wrapped in plastic sheeting. They're being very well preserved, and have reached the end of their life, they cannot be flown anymore! Basically they are there as parts for other planes. In my last job three of us nearly went out there (we even got permission) but 30 of us were made redundant.

The old Russian fleet is another gigantic dump but it is spread all over their coast line ports. The nuke boats are a great hazard, which is a pity when their power plants can be used to provide electricity.
