I couldn't just leave my reply as smack as my BP was rising. Saying something like that is like saying because of Harold Shipman, all GP's are murderers or because one Teacher has been jailed for being a paedophile, all Teachers are paedophiles.

FFS smack

It's nothing to do with wanting to protect them, but it was a daft comment. It's like saying free drugs is a "perk of the job" working in A&E or theatres. The key is in one word you used to reply - SOME!

Going by the list provided about the charges against police - 202 (imsmc) out of what, approx 17,000 (give or take) Police officers is small fry.

I know of a few Police who were in the Armed Forces before they joined and they had records for D&D, S5 POA etc from when they were wet behind the ears SUT's. It doesn't make them corrupt, it makes them human.

I'd be the first to say that if one is convicted of coruption then he/she should lose his/her job, pension etc. BUT, I will also be the first to defend them when a sweeping statement is made that all are somehow corrupt.

It's one of those "media" things that really pisses me off - if it's a postman (for example) then his occupation is not mentioned, but when it comes to Police, Doctors etc, it's always the job that's put before the person. A bit like when you hear "a youth has been stabbed" when they're white and "a black youth has been stabbed" when they're black. The colour of their skin is immaterial - a youth is a youth. Why tag them because of their colour.

O/T I know, but it sort of explains what I mean.

As an add on: Looking at some on that list, some are the same case repeated, some are not Police Officers & some were found not guilty/NFA'd. "Misconduct" can be anything from "stealing" property from the office (pens etc), using the station phone for personal use, using the station computer to go on farcebook/twitter/other social networking sites & sites nothing to do with work. More will no doubt be printed by the press in the next year as PSD are all over officers like a cheap suit these days for anything they can get them on, thanks to Theresa "Cruella" May.

Wench ,i don`t think it was a daft comment at all ,not calling all police officer`s or doctor`s or teacher`s or any one else proffesional or not , you may very well of had your experience`s in life and i have had mine ,and i still say (perk`s of the job) that`s my opinion thanks June

And I'll still say daft comment. It's not a perk of the job at all. There are no perks to the job thanks to the government. By still saying "perk of the job", you are effectively calling all corrupt, as a perk of any job is something open to all.

It'd be a worse country without the police!!

I'm stepping away from the thread now because my BP is through the fookin roof!!

seeyu *wanders off mumbling "perks of the job - stupid fookin comment in my opinion"*

Here's a news report of local police being charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
