Merseyside Police has released CCTV of a man, who may be able to assist with officer's enquiries, following an assault in Birkenhead on Sunday, 10 July.

Officers were called to Argyle Street, near to the old Post Office on the corner of Grange Road East, at around 3.30am to reports of an assault. A 19-year-old man was punched in an unprovoked attack, while it is thought he was trying to break up a fight. He was taken to hospital where he has had to have three metal plates inserted into his face.

Following the attack the offender walked from the scene towards Conway Street.

Enquiries are ongoing and CCTV is being examined.

While officers have spoken with a number of witnesses in the area, they are keen to trace anyone who witnessed this incident. Officers are also keen to trace the man captured on the CCTV as he may have information that could assist with enquiries
