Remembrance Sunday services across Wirral ANNOUNCING Remembrance Sunday services across the borough the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Alan Jennings, has today paid tribute to servicemen and women past and present across the country.
He said: "Sadly, due to current intensive operations, the names of many young men and women are being added to war memorials throughout the land. "As Mayor of Wirral, let me say how proud we are of all those who have answered the call to arms in defence of our country. "We must never forget those who made the supreme sacrifice in the name of freedom, and we are pledged to remember those living with life-changing injuries sustained in the service of others." The mayor will join other local leaders to represent the borough at this year’s Civic Remembrance Sunday commemoration at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. He will join former service men and women, their families and representatives from the armed forces, at the annual ceremony on Sunday, November 14, from 10.55am. There will then be a service of remembrance where guests will observe a two minute silence at 11am, which will be marked by the firing of a ceremonial cannon.
