Heswall benefit cheat mum warned she may face jail

A HESWALL woman who today admitted benefit fraud has been warned she faces a jail sentence.

Lisa Waring pleaded guilty to three offences of failing to notify a change of circumstances between October 2002 and July 10 last year.

The offences involve income support, housing benefit and council tax obtained by failing to notify the authorities that she was residing with her partner, John Waring, who was contributing to the household.

She had claimed she was a lone parent with two children.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that 35-year-old Waring pleaded guilty on the basis that the offences only began in 2004.

Judge Henry Globe, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, told Waring: "There is a very large amount of money involved."

He pointed out that she has previously had two suspended prison sentences and warned her, and declared: "The overwhelming likelihood is there has to be a custodial sentence which must be immediate. The question is how long."

He further remanded Waring, of Milton Crescent, on bail until September 4 to enable a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
