Wirral Against The Cuts political group to relaunch

A POLITICAL organisation set up in Wirral almost four years ago to campaign against library closures and budget cuts is set to be revived.

Wirral TUC says it is relaunching the “Wirral Against the Cuts” party as the local authority seeks to find ways of saving £39m next year.

The council is required by law to set a balanced budget and has been consulting with people to discover what services they attach most importance to, and which are least important to them, raising concerns that services and jobs are under threat.

Alec McFadden, secretary of Wirral TUC, said the council should seek other ways to save money.

Mr McFadden said: “We recognise the problems that are being created are from the Government cuts, but you have to deal with it in a way that is sympathetic to the community, the services people rely on, and the staff..”

Wirral TUC is holding a meeting to set up the Wirral Against the Cuts group on November 8, 7.30pm, at 4, St Anne Street, Birkenhead.
