Part of Liverpool's new £19m cruise liner terminal will be dismantled for surveys to be carried out.

Two of the four floating pontoons that make up the landing stage will be taken to shipbuilders' Cammell Laird's Dry Dock in Birkenhead.

An independent check of the pontoons' structure has to be carried out as part of the contract between Liverpool City Council and builders Balfour Beatty.

The checks were deferred because of the QE2's visit last month.

Two of the pontoons have already passed the survey.
