Only 3 weeks to go before the Wallasey Motor Clubs Promenade Stages Rally, this year sponsored by Accident Advice Solicitors.

By popular demand it will once again be run on the Friday night and all day Saturday. The Friday night will be slightly different to previous years due to time constraints, and cars will set off at 30 sec intervals rather than a Super Special side by side.

The The Friday kicks off at 2pm with the cars going through scrutineering and noise testing, and between 7 and 10pm the cars will take on a pair of stages.

First car is out at 8am on Saturday morning, and the even should be finished by about 6pm.

Cost is £5 per car, £3 per person on foot - this includes a programme - if you purchase a programme on Friday, keep this for free admission on the Saturday smile

More info can be found on the Wallasey Motor Club Site

OH lord, a load of noise and black tyre marks all over the promenade once again, going round bends and roundabouts the wrong way, what fun........................ not............ just encourages the ' boy racers ' to kill themselves and other innocent people on their mad jaunts up and down the promenade during evenings after the happening and most evenings of the year.......

I'd also like to mention that the 2013 event won the Wirral Tourism award, 2014, for the best event on the Wirral in 2013.

Thankfully you seem to be in the minority as the event is always well received by the majority, not to mention what it does for the Wirral, it is also the only "closed road" rally in England (at club level), so it's a very rare spectacle which is over subscribed every year and draws in 1000s of spectators smile

I would not want to spoil anyone's fun and a bit of road closure for the event is not important. I do however wonder about the damage such an event must cause to the road surface? The surface is bad enough as it is! Does the Club pay a fee for the road use? I can't see then getting road use for free! If so I have to wonder whether the fee will (eventually) be put into some road repairs either on the prom or elsewhere in the area?

Yes Snod, Wallasey MC pay the council for the road closure, not sure of the figure this year, but it's by far the largest expense after the barriers and they come in at nearly £2000!

What an absolute bunch of boring misery guts!

If the so called "Boy Racers" kill themselves and innocent people "most evenings of the year......." down the promenade, then what difference does a profesionnally held and run Motor Rally over 1 weekend make?!?!

This event has been going on for YEARS! And hopefully it will continue to do so. One of the biggest and best highlights of the year for the Wirral, and as already mentioned, a Tourism Award winner for our area!

Me and the family will be down again both days, year after year, showing our Support for our local Petrolhead thrillseekers!!

If you don't like it, then please don't litter this thread with negative comments. Go for a walk somewhere on the Friday/Saturday, or maybe try some flower arranging!

Everyone entitled to their opinion, they make a mess of the roadway, produce loads of noise, fumes, litter and inconvenience to people wanting to get to New Brighton. You go and watch it by all means but dont expect everyone to like it just because you do. Little boys and their noisy toys.

- The roadway is for the use of cars anyway. It is not designed to be pretty. I fail to see the issue. Do you have a road fetish?

- Noise limits are set in place to ensure that there is no long lasting Environmental damage/Noise Pollution. Car too loud? You dont compete. The Wirral Show with its ancillaries was a louder event overall.

- A Single Boeing 747 uses more fuel TAXIING to the runway ready for takeoff, than an entire weekend of club motorsport. Hope you haven't been on Holiday anytime recently...

- Litter isnt usually dropped by the competitors/organisers. Massive efforts to clean up after the event ALWAYS take place. Bins are provided. Blame the inconvenienced "Locals" enjoying the promenade for that (Problem with society).

- 363 other days in the year for people to enjoy an Inconvenience Free Promenade. I see lots of people there all the time, all the way through the year. If you decide to only visit the Promenade once a year, on 5th & 6th September, then I have no sympathy. There are still 2-3 other routes down to New Brighton front, so again, no real issue there.

I dont think competitors would take too kindly to being referred to as "Little Boys" with noisy toys in all honesty. A lot of time, effort and money goes into the ownership and general running of the cars and in a very safe and PROFESSIONAL manner. In order to compete, you have to pass a series of medical tests, Theory and Practical tests to prove that you are safe to drive at competition speeds. So whereas a normal driving licence is a PRIVILEGE used and abused by the majority of people with no actual knowledge on how to handle a car and THINK they DESERVE to be on the roads, Rally Drivers are among the few to have actually earnt the RIGHT to drive, and to do so quickly in closed events. Plus the Vehicles used are arguably much safer, and much more closely monitored than your road car with Budget Tyres and an MOT once a year!

And as a final mark which Im sure you'll be against, the Government have opened up discussions with the MSA to increase the powers local Councils have to hold and stage closed road motorsport events on public roads. So unfortunately, seeing as Britain loves Motorsport (and happens to be at the Pinnacle of the Industry throughout the world)there may well be a lot more taking place to further Inconvenience the minority such as yourself. Of course, everyone is entitled to an opionion, but if you are against closed promenades, litter, noise etc, are you also against the Hoylake Lifeboat day? This closes a prom, has more noise from the planes and generates huge public interest and litter. Its for Charity? Well yes, but a lot of charities also benefit from the Rally also with donations from the club plus collections on the day in an area full of people - it was considered a few years back that the rally wasnt going to be run, and the RNLI (to name just one charity) were very disappointed due to the loss of the fund raising opportunity.

Damage to the actual surface is very minimal, it moves loose stones from the tarmac around, as the rally uses parts of the roundabouts / prom that dont usually get driven over. This moves gravel (loose stones) around, giving the impression it has torn up the surface when it hasnt - the cracks, pot holes and lifting of the surface are caused by water and frost. (Plus, the Rally has to pay a fee to close the road, and insurance covers any road furniture that may also be damaged)

Im not saying its to everyones taste, but its not just "little boys and their noisy toys" that benefit from the event, so please be fair with any negative comments smile

Interesting addition to the BBC News Website today, showing all road deaths that Occurred in Britain between 1999 and 2010. Clicking on the Wirral area and scrolling up to the Promenade, we can see that only 1 incident has occurred on Wednesday 22nd March 2000.

Clicking the icon brings up more details on the tragic event...

So as we can see, a motorbike incident that occurred 6 months after the event took place (if it was run in September of that year, my memory fails me in this instance unfortunately). I fail to see how these professionally run stages inspire Boy racers to kill themselves and the Public around the New Brighton Area. Absolute load of Hear'Say Poppycock.

Just over 2 weeks to go!!

As I said before ' little boys and their noisy toys ' and if that turns you on then lucky old you........

Perhaps you would like to read THIS, I wonder why that was not in your stats ?. I was there that night, only one word for it, horrific. By the way, the situation has not changed, the ' boy racers' are still at it most nights emulating their ' rally heroes '.

I guess the misinformed are entitled to their negative opinions, if you think the Prom event was responsible for that then you really are clutching at straws.

Thankfully the event is well received, proven by the tourism award - if it had a negative impact on the area them it wouldn't be allowed to run.

How do you know that it was not responsible for the incident. How do you know that someone watching the event on the same road does not try and copy the rally drivers. You don,t on both.

Why also, when people disagree with things, which they are fully entitled to do, they are misinformed and negative. If you like it then good for you, I don't and I am saying so and fully entitled to do so without being classed as misinformed and negative. Could call you names but don,t need to, to make my point.
