Liverpool Philharmonic joins together with our neighbours on Hope Street for the sixth family-friendly Hope Street Feast!

At the heart of the Feast is the Open Day at Liverpool Philharmonic, a chance to get an insider’s view of the venue and experience some fantastic free live music. Drop in throughout the day for music and fun activities for all ages, with free performances from a range of ensemble, artists and bands, tasters of our learning programmes, chamber, jazz and folk music, films, stages and stalls all along Hope Street, and lots more surprises on the day.

Plus there's a chance to receive 20% off selected upcoming concerts and events if you book in person on the day!

Treasure Hunt
10.30am-5.30pm Foyer
Pick up a map from the info desk in the foyer and head off around Liverpool Philharmonic Hall following the clues that lead to the treasure.

The Iron Giant (U)
10.30am-12pm Main Auditorium
The animated action adventure in which a boy makes friends with an innocent giant alien robot that a paranoid government agent wants to destroy.
Supersing Classics!
11am-12.30pm Rodewald Suite
Led by Ian Chesworth, this is your chance to try out singing fantastic classical music choruses in this 90 minute singing workshop - Supersing is for adults and no previous singing experience is required, however energy and enthusiasm are essential! Places are limited and booking is essential, tickets are free and must be booked at the Box Office in the grand foyer on the day.

The Itch Of The Golden Nit (PG)
12.10pm-12.30pm Main Auditorium
David Walliams, Miranda Hart, Catherine Tate and Rik Mayall are among the cream of British comedy leading the cast in this animation, created by children for children, and featuring music performed by the West Everton Children’s Orchestra.

West Everton Children’s Orchestra
12.40pm-1pm Main Auditorium
The Orchestra was formed through the groundbreaking project In Harmony which sees Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra musicians making music and singing part of everyday life for children and staff at Faith Primary School. West Everton Children’s Orchestra featured at this year’s On The Waterfront festival and have played with Julian Lloyd Webber.

Instrument Petting Zoo
1pm-2.30pm Rodewald Suite
Never been up close with a trombone, trumpet, violin or French horn? Come up to the Rodewald Suite, with its entrance at the very back of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, to get your hands on a variety of instruments and have a go! All ages welcome, absolutely no experience necessary.

Witness a rousing performance by the thirty eight-man-strong Dutch folk song and sea shanty choir from Sneek, near Leeuwarden, in the north of the Netherlands.

China Pearl
2.50pm-3.10pm Main Auditorium
The community focused Chinese arts and culture organisation based in Liverpool aims to advance the education of Chinese arts and culture to a wider audience and cultural exchange between communities. They present Chinese themed dance, music and theatre.

First Notes Children’s Workshop for 3-5 year olds

Join Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra violinist, Jenny Glester, and viola player, Rachel Jones, for 35 minutes of fun music making. Places are limited and booking is essential, tickets are free and must be booked at the Box Office in the grand foyer on the day.

The Irish Sea Sessions

Main Auditorium

Part super-group, part colossal session and part festival, all in a single gig, the Irish Sea Sessions was voted Best Folk/Roots Event of the Year by Liverpool Daily Post readers in 2010 and returns this year on Friday October 21 . Pop in for this tantalising preview of this year’s event.

Walsh & Pound
4.20pm-5.20pm Main Auditorium
The fastest rising young stars on the folk scene. The duo delve into bluegrass, English, Scottish and Irish folk, blues and even Middle Eastern sounds, all the while sounding very much like themselves with harmonica player Will Pound's seemingly never ending breath control and Dan Walsh's lightning virtuosity on banjo. Janice Long of BBC Radio 2 said ‘[they are] incredibly gifted - if anyone has the opportunity to see them they must'.
