History weekend at Tam O'Shanter urban farm

HISTORY will be brought to life at Tam O'Shanter urban farm in Bidston next week in a Medieval Fayre weekend.

Among the attractions of the event, which takes place on Saturday September 11 and Sunday 12 - will be Knights In Battle displays, living history and cooking demonstrations and crafts people showing a range of traditional arts, crafts, puppetry and storytelling – all with a medieval theme.

The event is free and open to everyone, with no need to book.

On Friday, September 10, school teachers are invited to bring their pupils to the farm for a special activities taster day with papermaking, calligraphy, rock carving, clay work, weaving and green woodwork.

Unlike the Medieval Fayre, this day will need to be booked by teachers in advance. There is no charge, but donations to the farm will be gratefully received. The sessions will run between 9.45am and noon and 1.15pm to 3.30pm.

On Saturday, September 11, the Rangers who are based at Tam O’Shanter and the adjacent Bidston Hill, will be leading guided tours up the Hill to the windmill, which is open on the Saturday from 10am-12noon and 2pm-4pm, to see where the first recorded windmill used to stand.

For further information and to book the teachers’ taster day, contact the Rangers on 0151 653 9332.
