Turned TV on today, and found the image was totally f*cked. There was a tiny little star shaped crack in the very top right hand corner of the screen. I bought this in Tescos in June (so it's been in the house for nearly 5 months), and it's been sat on the stand since then, never been moved, and it's got this now. Is there anything I can do? The TV wasn't dropped or touched, it just happened?!? I spent a lot on it, and don't expect it to fail after four months.
I expect it's covered by a manufacturer's warranty?

I phoned Tesco Electrical Helpline on 0845 4566767 and after describing the problem, they said they will issue a reference number and I could return it to the store for a refund or exchange - if I have the receipt! I'll have to find it now!

I have a shoe box under me bed with a letter box size hole innit. Any receipt i get no matter what, it goes in there. That way i know that if some thing does mess up, its just a case of lookin through tthe box for 5 mins !.

No, I'm not sure how it happened. The only thing I can think of is I leant over it to turn the power off at the socket. There is no damage on the screen, there are no marks, nothing has hit it, the damage is inside. Have no kids, only a pug who can't even reach the stand!

I too keep every receipt I have. I even have ones from when I used to smoke! I keep the whole lot in a Pringles tube, all the way back from 2006. Definately done a runner though, I think I put it somewhere safe and it's just disappeared. I have the purchase on my statement, and I used my club card with it. I need to get this sorted, it's a bit of a nightmare.

well the fact u have a couple of documents backing up ur purchase u should be ok, as i imagine, if u had already returned the tv they would have deducted the clubcard points too - which they would have a log of

Is it a plasma or an LCD? Plasma's have been known to do things like this on very very rare occasions, so you will be fine under warranty, if it is LCD, it would have to be accidental damage.

The only problem I can imagine you would have without the reciept, is they may want to scan the reciept barcode to verify it was the same serial number on the TV, although they will be able to confirm this with the distributor I would imagine.

Did you register the TV with the manufacturer when you bought it for the warranty purposes etc? If so, the manufacturer should offer you a direct replacement (provided their not classing it as accidental damage).

I would think Tesco will take it back without the recipt, however, whether or not they will refund/exchange without one straight away is questionable, until they can verify the TV was a set sold by themselves, and the damage was not caused by misuse (if they do this, look at it from their oint of view, any customer could waltz in and say the same story, even if they were lying, and get a new TV lol).

Could do without this to be honest! The damage is bad enough, but the missing receipt. frown
Didn't register or anything, never had any damage to anything electrical before!

As you mentioned check your bank statements.

If your after a replacement you don't need a receipt as they
will have at Tescos the Serial Numbers of all there stock.

You need a Receipt if you wanted your money back.
But not if you would except a replacement.

I got this sorted today. Kept all my old bank statements, and found the one with the transaction on.
The woman behind the customer services desk (Sarah) was very good and spent about an hour tracing everything. I upgraded and paid a bit extra for a better and bigger one!

Glad you got this sorted, and nice 1 to Tesco's for replacing it with what sounds like little trouble.
