Hello. Only just got on here. Youve probably seen me about though.

My cars a 1962 100e with a 2.1 Pinto and 5 speed box. Heres a spec list and a few pictures....

Engine : Transit Pinto block, bored to roughly 2090cc with higher comp pistons. Big valves (not sure on the size but ive been assured theyre huge), Polished and ported head. Rally spec cam. 38dgas carb (from a 3.0 capri). 4-2-1 manifold. I did have a side exit exhaust with no silencers but it failed on MOT for flames so i had a friend build up a custom system with a resonator on the middle and a small middle box for a back box. Omex Rev limiter with a flashy red light too happy

Transmission : 5-speed Capri/Sierra gearbox pulled from a rally mk2 escort. Unknown ratios, but the gap between 1st and 2nd has been filled so its always in powerband. RS2000 3.54 diff in a standard mk1 Cortina axle case and shafts.

Suspension : Front is adjustable coilovers conversion, rear is cortina multileaf springs and adjustable Spax shockies.

Brakes : Capri 2.8 calipers and vented discs up front, Cortina GT 8" drums out back.

Wheels : Im unsure what to use at the moment, but on it is a pair of 13x5" escort steels and a pair of 13x5.5" Alleycats. Ive got some comsics to paint up and im after a set of 5.5" escort steels to paint black.

Interior : Ally doorcards and dash panels etc. Loads of dials and gauges, most of which dont work. The original speedo which stops at 80 but is a novelty in its own right. MG Metro seats on adjustable rails. Odd harnesses. Pretty stripped out apart from all the rubbish that collects in it.

Ive had nothing but trouble from it. Pulled a ballstud out of the head, blown up 2 diffs, snapped two alt brackets, broken coils etc etc but its worth it.

I've seen you twice! Did you do this yourself?
Are you keeping the Pinto? Binned mine immediately when I got my kitcar!

Ive seen the car a few times.

IMO the Pinto is a good choice smile Its fairly tunable and should see near 200bhp with oversized valves, big carbs and set up right.

As its on carbs it means theres no fancy electronics and ECU, which where obviously never fitted to the original car which keeps it nice and simple, and proper old school smile

You'd spend more on the Pinto than if you put a VTEC or XE in there. Anything over 150 bhp and you're talking new head every 1000 miles, the valve geometry is fooking awful. Ask any Ford tuner about those 8v Pintos. thumbsdown

Yeah, the pinto isnt the greatest of engines but it is fairly torquey and if built right, fairly reliable. The problem with mine now is that if i wanted to make more power id need a pair of 45's or 48's which i havnt got space for, and id need more revs, and the standard bottom end cant handle any more then 7500rpm, and even then only in bursts. So id need to drop a few grand on steel internals and itd just render the whole thing far too expensive. My long term plan is a cossie yb turbo if funds allow, or an SR20 turbo. If im fitting another engine i may aswell use something turbocharged with easy power compared to NA.

But to defend the Pintos which are a good engine, i know of 8 valvers out there, with all the little niggles like valve geometry and correct porting and every single little detail, on a pair of 44idf's making 230bhp, not bad for a near 40 year old engine. And even it up with a warrior 16v head and 300bhp is easy, 350bhp on itb's and a good setup....... but we are talking £30k plus.

I never did the engine swap. When i bought the car most of the major work was done. I saw it by chance on ebay looking for a 24v cossie to bung into my mk1 cortina and fancied it. Ive basically made the car more reliable, and finished a lot of the jobs that the last owner bodged up.

allo their dave, smile its jon with the black an flaked 100e...

not seen you since the party, ya diff still going strong then wink

am gonna back the pinto's too, their a cracking engine for pound to horsepower expense
i'd go with a pinto over a XE or zetec anyday, albeing because of the cost of the conversion parts for the xe still being on the high side

x-flow all the way for me smile lol

Yeah its holding up so far but its starting to get a bit clunky. Just need to look after it.

Yeah, conversion parts cost more then the engine itself. And i was a big crossflow fan myself until i got the pinto. If mine wasnt an everyday drive id stick a screaming crossflow in there but id miss the torque otherwise.

Hows the pop? Are you keeping it at all?

It's nice to see something older on the road these days, you get bored of all the injection moulded plastic rep mobiles, I'm no fan on new cars at all.
I saw you in Upton Shell petrol station a couple of months ago, and then saw you take off the line at the traffic lights in opposite Birkenhead Market (when there were a lot of people around). It was very loud.

I still have my Pinto sat in the garage. I'm sure I'll never ever use it, and it's in the way, so if you break something... smile

I do have a soft spot for the Pinto must admit...

My only beef is that the 1600 Kent Formula Fords Ive worked on have been much faster than Sports 2000 cars... which on paper should be faster etc etc...(2.0L Pinto)

Sports 2000...

Formula Ford 1600
