The IPCC have refused to launch a formal investigation into the Orgreave Miners case.

Paraphrasing a little bit they have said:-

Sod off, we are too busy
Looks like higher police ranks were in on it.
Perjury was rife.
We know we are going to get loads of stick over this decision.
We don't want to discredit South Yorkshire police any more.
The BBC news footage was edited to give the wrong impression of events.
We've just wasted two and a half years looking into it.

There was wrongdoing on both sides, not just on 18th June. It needs to be left to rest, unless of course some miners want to be investigated for the attacks and threats made upon the "scabs"?

That flies in the face of our whole justice scheme.

Are you saying one crime cancels out the other? If so I could be rich very soon.

Nope, not saying that at all. But if everything that's been done has been done, what more can they do? The police voluntarily started the process:

Quote
The IPCC said its decision could be reviewed if further evidence emerged. South Yorkshire Police referred itself to the IPCC after a BBC documentary in 2013 claimed officers may have colluded in writing court statements.

Quote
IPCC deputy chair Sarah Green said: "These are events from more than 30 years ago, and I have considered the impact such a passage of time could have on an IPCC investigation and possible outcomes.

"In addition, because the miners arrested at Orgreave were acquitted or no evidence offered, there are no miscarriages of justice due to alleged police failures for the IPCC to investigate.

"Allegations of offences amounting to minor assaults could not be prosecuted due to the passage of time; and as many of the police officers involved in events at Orgreave are retired, no disciplinary action could be pursued."

The BBC have been showing the miner's karate kick towards a copper ad nauseum today. Was he ever charged with that?

Various police officers are acknowledged to have committed perjury, furthermore, despite this being found out, someone somewhere chose not to prosecute them.

The police used excessive force and did not follow protocol, this was acknowledged in other court cases but has never been formally investigated or charges brought.

Senior police officers (and maybe government officials) are acknowledged to have been involved in the excessive force and breaches of protocol - none were formally investigated or charged.

The reason the miners were acquitted is because they had to defend themselves against the excessive violence by the police, the BBC reversed the order of footage to make it look like the miners attacked first.

Ignoring all this sends out the wrong message, if police step out of line they should expect to be prosecuted, ignoring these offences encourages the bad eggs and forces the better police officers turn a blind eye.

Its funny that other old offences get dug up and prosecuted even when there is no hard evidence, no reliable independent witnesses and only amounts to one persons word against another's based on vague memories.

The police need to know they have to be squeaky clean, which is not my opinion of out own force.

Odd that despite multiple recorded incidents of police 'misbehaviour' people feel that they must defend them blindly, they are no more or less incorruptible or at risk of falsifying evidence than anyone else.
Gullibility of some that take a policemans statement as gospel without question astounds me.
Then again, we have a newly elected government with a previous record without reproach..... Whats to worry about Eh?
