Did any of you apply for the jobs at the new Debenhams Cheshire Oaks Store? If so, how did you get on?

I did, and much to my anger and disgust, they knocked me back. I am feeling so because I have actually worked for them before, yet still they rejected me.

When I was applying for jobs last year, I was constantly rejected for those that I could have done standing on my head, having tons of previous experience. Also, I am constantly amazed at the caliber of people that do get hired, yet appear to have no customer service skills nor be able to serve me without gossiping to their co-workers.
I would love to know exactly what criteria the 'would be' employers use to determine who gets to go forward in the application process and who doesn't.
I wish you success in finding work soon

No need for sarcastic witticisms. I was VERY, VERY upset by the rejection, especially when they kept me in the dark for FIVE WHOLE WEEKS, forcing me to ring them up a few times to ask what the outcome of my interview. It was bad enough being kept waiting, but then to knock me back - and me, an ex-employee of theirs - was, quite frankly, disgusting.

Rejected cause they don't like your attitude, they know you and don't want you back.

What the hell do you mean, "they don't like my attitude"? You don't even know me, so how can you judge?

I will have you know that during my previous employ with them, I worked HARD and was dedicated to the job. I also did my best at the interview and assessment centre, really getting over to them just how much I was interested in returning to work for them.

So get your facts right before you start hurling unwarranted accusations at a person you don't even know.

It is clear from your "attitude" that you have never been unemployed, so don't really know how bad rejection hurts.

Have you asked them for feedback on the interview? if they use a points system it may be that others scored higher! We have had ex employees come for interviews, sometimes they have the "you know me, the job is mine!" attitude, others 'forget' to mention the experience they gained!

Although I agree with your post, the addition of "just sayin" (or even "saying") doesn't blunt the sharpness of a comment.

You stated that you've previously worked for Debenhams; a lot of big organisations do not take on old staff - I've had it with companies before.
When it comes to new store openings, they prefer staff to be all new together - it helps with team bonding, a better attitude from staff thus better customer service (theoretically).

There must have been a reason why you left in the first place; they may have looked at your old records and decided, for whatever reason, not to take you on again (too many sick days/unauthorised absences etc).
The best way to try and get a job back there, is to make contact with old colleagues who still work there (or in this case, those that are transferring over); but they're unlikely to owe you any favours, and if you're still rejected, then don't take it out on them (and don't put them under pressure to get you in; they're not miracle workers).

Did you leave the first time because you loved the job so much you couldn't bear it? or did you leave because you didn't get on with store management/colleagues or didn't like how you were treated? or was it the hours and pay that made you leave? There must have been a reason why you left, and is it something you can look past in order to work there again. I know when I've sat down to think why I left a particular employer, it was to do with money, hours and the attitudes of management - it made me not apply for jobs!
