Has anyone else complained about the state of the road surfaces especially in Wallasey? I drove from Liscard to New Brighton this morning starting near Martins lane. The surface of that road is like something from Eastern Europe when the communists were in power. Rowson street, Seabank road and many off them are also a disgrace.

I've complained to the Council, Councillors and our MP but apart from filling in the odd pothole, nothing is done. I'm old enough to remember when Wallasey was a county borough and was responsible for buses, water, ferries, housing and much more yet did a good job. All of those things are now gone so where is the money being spent? Meanwhile in Hoylake.......... Well you know the rest!

No doubt some roads are in a very poor state.I mention it every time we get one of those questionnaires from the various political parties. No consolation I know but we have just got back from Canada and spent many hours driving on King's Highway 17, the Trans Canada Highway, 1220 miles long and that is in an awful state of disrepair.

It not just Wallasey, they are poor all over the Wirral frown

Who ever manages the roads really done have a clue either! A couple of years ago they resurfaced the Upton by-pass and there was nothing wrong with it! Why didnt they resurface other roads which were (and still are) in dire need of a resurface....

...the mind boggles, secret handshakes and all that!

Contacting and making complaints to the council, doesn't seem to solve anything these days. I too have contacted them over a couple of issues, which would come under the banner of health and safety. One of which has gone on for a number of years. To date, nobody has done anything.

When someone breaks their ankle or leg by falling into these holes, maybe a claim for compensation is a better option??
I think the 'outsourcing' of various Council services has resulted in a definite lack of response, they can blame each other now.

The roads are a disgrace and I think they use inferior tarmac etc. for (the cheaper option) which is standard practice now.

How many times does a road get resurfaced, only to be dug up again in various places for work to be done ? No co-ordination anywhere. How many times do 'the patches' sink ?

Personally, I don't much see the point of complaining to local council level any longer, waste of a phone call, go straight to the top and let the people who put themselves in higher places, for the good of, oversee the problem. We seem to hear much about what has been achieved when the elections are in the offing.

The ONLY thing the contractors seem to be able to do at a reasonably speedy process, is to cut trees down to about 3ft off the ground and leave them standing for eternity. It's like some sort of training scheme they are involved with. If I remember correctly, when this outsourcing was introduced for highways and byways, we were publicly asked to keep our Council informed about anything we were not happy about. Ha bloody ha !

One voice in the dark is of no concern to them, get a street of complaints together and see how the response might change.

To date, there doesn't seem to have been much mentioned about the 'Hoylake Happenings' this time around. Possibly being transmitted on a different frequency.

Ottawa is full of pot holes after a very hard Winter. Crews are out every day to fix them. If you come across a really bad one, you can go to City of Ottawa website and submit the location of the pot hole. It's fixed in a day or two.

The M53 between J3 and J5 both sides is a state for a motorway, you shouldn't have to be swerving holes at that speed.

I agree, the roads are a disgrace. But the age you describe has now past into history. It was an age when most men had jobs and were responsible for supporting their families and paying their own rents. An age when few ventured near to the benefits office. An age when Wallasey and Birkenhead people thrived from the docks industry and Cammell Laird's, Levers and so on. I can't see things ever changing for the descendants of those people. Wirral appears to be a place of two halfs. What money there is available is being used to house the welfare dependants etc. Then there are those in the public sector, police, fire, ambulance, health service, teachers and so on. So there is little left in the pot of local taxes to spend on making sure our roads are kept in good condition. That's despite the billions in revenue collected from the motorists. Dunno what the answer is. We certainly need something to get the place back working again though.

Highway Maintenance.

Click on 'Road Surfaces' and it takes you to the start of an online form to report any problems. Then click on NEXT at the bottom of that page.

https://www.wirral.gov.uk/my-servic...ghways-and-pavements/highway-maintenance

Of course, it would appear that you are only able to report your own Street.

There is a dip in the road at the bottom of Atherton Street where it meets the prom at the Morrisons traffic lights junction. Just at that spot buses are turning and must be putting some pressure on the road. It has sunk before and I am wondering just when it will collapse completely.

There is a similar dip opposite the Sandridge pub on Rowson Street. That has been filled in a couple of times and every time sinks and that one is not far off falling in either.

Martins lane's really bad.
We complained to the council but it looks like it'll need a full resurface.

The worst ones are trenches across the road that have fallen in. Unlike potholes, you can't avoid them and I wince every time my car crashes into them. They must be hell for anyone with a bad back.

There's a really bad one across Rake Lane between the post office parcel collection office and the phone exchange, another across Seabank Road at the top of Warwick Drive, and another down on the prom opposite the kiosk for the crazy golf.

Complained to the council via Fix My Street but nothing gets done. Very occasionally I might get a reply saying the pothole isn't severe enough to warrant attention. But they ignore the fact that they only get worse over time.

Of course, all the money is being spent on Hoylake for the Open, never mind the fact that Hoylake, Caldy and West Kirby get the most money spent on them anyway because the more well-off live there...
