I have for many years been trying to find the birthdate of my deceased older sister. All I know is that she was born in 1940 and lived for only 10 days. She was buried in Bromborough Church with my great grandmother whose surname was Moulton. Any ideas anybody please?

If you can give her name and your mothers maiden name I can try for you.
You will probably have to apply for her birth certificate to the UK GRO to get the exact date of birth.

Thanks folks. My mothers maiden name was Ruth Barbara Illidge.
My sister's name was Elizabeth Barbara Graham. The closest I
can get is April/May/June 1940.
I don't even know if there is a headstone. I only remember my
mother saying to me (I was very young) as we were leaving the
church in later years that my sister was buried with her grandmother "over there". Here's hoping. One of my big regrets
is not asking my Mum before she died. My younger brother wasn't
even aware that we had a sister as this was never discussed.

If there's no headstone or the birth date is not recorded on it, should there be one, there's a slim chance the birth date may have been recorded at her baptism. If she was baptised at St Barnabas, the records are held at the Cheshire Records Office. I think they would charge for a search, perhaps if you email them first to find out.

Your sister was registered, Barbara E Graham, 1940 Wirral, Vol 8a Page 1277, it may work out cheaper to order the birth cert from the GRO, it will definitely have the required information on that. Good Luck.

Hi you two. Thank you both for all the effort you have put in for me.
Bert, I don't imagine the babe would have been baptised at all to be honest as she only lived for ten days.
Alan, I have attempted to PM you, but whether you receive it is another thing as I have never sent one before. I remember my Mum pointing to the area on the left as you enter the church and telling me my sister was buried there with her grandmother. If there is a headstone my great grandmother's maiden name was Elizabeth Moulton and she married James Williams in 1881 at St. Pauls in Tranmere.
The photo's would be a real treat, so I really hope you get my email address. If you don't I think I'll just put it on here for you. Do you think that would be safe to do?
cheers and a million thanks to both of you Ruth

Ruth,

If the baby was born a sickly child and wasn't expected to live, there's every chance a baptism took place, without a baptism or a recording on a headstone and there doesn't appear to be one, Alan looked. The only sure way of finding the birth date is by ordering the birth certificate. Unfortunately it costs money but will have the information you seek. The link is for how and where,

Alan, the photo's are absolutely magnificent thank you so much. The area pointed to was (I think) more where the conifers are on the left of the entrance and if there is a headstone I would imagine it would be for James and Elizabeth Williams. I am just so grateful for your obvious attempts for me.
Bert, actually they didn't know the babe was sickly. She was a ten pounder and the death was sudden from a heart condition. My thanks go to you too, for the information you have discovered for me. This all proves that there are still some very wonderful and caring people in this crazy world of ours. Ruth

Hi Alan. Again thank you for more wonderful photo's and all the time you have spent trying to find things out for me. I think you are a giant among men to go to this much trouble. I have printed off the photo's and shown them to my three kids who are super impressed, both with the pics and the fact that you would do this for me. It's a shame they don't have info on grave sites in the church records isn't it? Cheers and thanks Ruth.
