I am sick of seeing all the litter strewn about all over the place. Why is there so much of it, even in places where you wouldn't expect? Is it thrown from the cars when people are driving along or what? Vyner Rd North is awful as you drive under the footbridge by Bidston Hill, there's tons of it trapped in the shrubs and grass on the verge.
Also, Thermopylae Pass is a disgrace. When I walk the dog along there, I usually take a carrier bag with me and pick up as much as I can en route. I also find it unusual that the litter doesn't always represent the type you'd expect (crisp packets, coke cans etc) Sometimes there are old cereal boxes or yoghurt pots which I think odd. Who the hell eats cereal out of a massive box while walking?
And, don't get me started on the entrances around shops. I believe that the shops should be responsible for clearing the litter directly in front of them, and should be fined if they don't do it.
Sainsbury's in Prenton is awful as is the entrance to Tesco Bidston.
Dropping litter is a crime and I find it appalling that people don't take their junk home with them and dispose of it accordingly.
It makes my blood boil when I see it lying around, it makes the whole area look horrible

What can we do about it though Pinz? I would gladly help to clear up litter if I knew I had the support of the council and the local community OR if there is a volunteer group out there who do something like this, I would love to join. And as I said, I do my bit by taking bags with me when walking the dog and picking up what I can (i'm sure passers by think I'm an odd ball who hordes rubbish!) I often wonder if it blows off the bin lorry, because there's just so much of it frown

Well done Elizabeth for doing your bit! Living in the sticks, it's all quiet country lanes around here with little traffic. Nevertheless, the hedgebottoms and verges have their share of drinks cans, polystyrene cups and take-away containers and of course fag packets. I sometimes carry a carrier bag too and collect the obvious stuff. "Spot the Loony time" indeed, but I don't give a shoite. Maybe your Community/Parish Council would have a get-together and blitz a particular area. It might be worth you enquiring? Once a year the Community Council here organise a day of clearing the local river bank of all the rubbish clinging to the bankside. Mostly plastic crap. The place looks great for a few weeks, then of course it re-appears. Grrrr.
Keep up the good work. It may shame others into giving you a hand!

Yes dog poo is as bad, I always pick my dog's poo up and take it home to dispose of. However, dog poo will eventually decompose and wash away to nothing or be eaten by bluebottles, but I agree it is revolting and there's no excuse for it.
I have noticed that there does not appear to be as much poo on the pavements as I remember from back in the day when I would walk to school, whereas litter seems to have increased tenfold.

The lack of litter bins is almost non-existant. Perhaps if the council would put more of them around the Wirral, it would go some way to making it a more pleasant environment for all.

The amount of litter that the Mersey spat out following the storm was horrific.

I bet it's a bit different to USA?
We get a continuous supply of sweety wrappers and sausage roll bags dropping into our garden. There is a little shop further along the road plus a bin there and another half way between, but we must be at the point when everyone takes the last bite!
That it annoying, but what is worse beyond doubt ,has to be the low life who cant or won't, clean up their own dog's sh1t.
The attempted trickery surrounding this act of avoidence, is beyond belief.
Not just here but everywhere.
Dog crouches, owner looks from one side to the other, to check if anybody is about and as there are, they slowly begin to root from one pocket to another to do a bit of time wasting, either pretending they have a bag or if they do, hope you disappear first, before they are intimidated into actually using the bag they brought, to pretend with. idiot
This 'wish you weren 't here' situation, applies to passing drivers also.
Then there are the' country lane 'dog walkers or the regular'we love walking in the woods' brigade, who think because they are in the country, or the woods, anything is acceptable, even to a
point of picking it up, tying bag and then throwing it away into a corner, or even better, hanging it on trees!!! LOVELY....

They are all disgusting low life. If they have dogs then they should be responsible.
I knew of one couple who continually failed to clear up after their dogs, until one day, a neighbour got so irate, he went out, picked it up and shoved it through their letter box. Strangely enough, they didn't do it again. grin

Some dog owners really do defy belief in their (in)actions no doubt of that. When I am walking our dog the amount of dog muck lying around is sometimes unbelievable. The owners must see it and have no excuse for not picking it up.Having said that I take ours for her early morning walk in the local park. Monday mornings I pick up and bin anything from 10 to 20 empty cans/bottles left by the Sunday footballers.I find it astonishing that the team managers do not ensure the bins (plenty of them) are not used. As regards other litter it is hard to know where much of it comes from at times, clearly the wind blows it into certain areas but why it was left in the first place is the question.I do think that even worse than all that is the spitting in the street, disgusting people spreading illnesses everywhere.

It's a small contribution I know, but here, all the roundabouts have been "adopted" by local businesses and they do keep them tidy and, largely, litter free.
Oh, BTW Elizabeth, bluebottles don't eat dog poo; they just lay their eggs there which turn into maggots, which eat some of the poo, but it's mainly a way of creating MORE BLUEBOTTLES.

Yes, they probably would!!!!

Loads round here too. What annoys me the most though are the sly lazy walkers who cross the park areas with their dogs after dusk, so they cant be seen letting their pet crap where the kids play.
